The Build is the BOSS!! #132 - Vernon BC, Canada
Hello, my name is Mike and I am looking for people that have built or are building a mechmate that live close to me to share ideas or to bounce things off of. I live in Vernon, British Columbia Canada.
|
Mike - Welcome to the forum. We are a global group so we welcome your questions and thoughts. Many topics are covered well in the current forum sections, so start researching and planning. We are looking forward to your build !!!

Can any one tell me why to use the 4 to 1 reduction drive vs direct drive.......will it run slower but have more torque.
|
Mike, it will run slower, have more torque, smoother movement, and greater accuracy. Since there is an upper limit on practical speed based on the tool (bit size, type, spindle speed, spindle HP), it is a net win - the machine works better and can cut more material faster.
|
Cool! thanks Brad......sounds like a no brainer......looks like i will be ordering some stuff from "MetalHead Mike"
|
posting pics?
Hello, can anyone tell me how to post some pics?
|
How do you post pics
Hello, how does one post a few pics.....cant seem to find out how, can anyone help me!
|
Press the "Go Advanced" button below the Message box.
Then press the "Manage Attachments" box. Remember that pics need to be small to upload them, so a max of 650x650 on Jpgs. |

So,
what are you going to use the MM for? I see a lot of classic cars and a pristine shop! That Ford Fastback looks awesome! |

2 inch square aluminum tubing with half inch spacing for clamping and waste material to fall through......with nylon spacers, and held on by stainless teck screws from the under side......kind of a expensive deck but it looks cool!

Just copy and paste to google......should work....i hope. Cheers |
Hey, Mike. When I tried that link, I do not have permissions to the file. You may try Vimeo to upload your videos to and to then share links. It is free, with a limitation on the size of video you upload per week. Oh, and don't worry, I understand the 8 year timeframe! ;)
Ted |
Thanks Ted, I went in and set the setting to anyone with the link to view....should be ok now....if not I will try what you said!
|
It was cutting backwards......lol......had to change settings to mirror image....oh I have lots to learn. haha
|
I am in the middle of building a watertable for plasma cutting.....dual purpose....Mill/plasma
|
Mike, that worked. Cool looking build! You have some major Z height there!
Ted |
Mike,
Congratulations on your progress. You're cutting, you've got paint. All you need is to add MechMate logos and you're ready for a Serial Number. By the way, you can also paste a LINK directly to your Post. Just "highlight the text" you want users to click, select the LINK Icon (World with a paper clip) and paste your link. Like this Link to Mike's MechMate cutting foam. |
Thanks John, i will get some logos made soon .....I will try linking that way next time i do a video. By the way is there a vector file for the logo in this forum?
|
Found the logo file!......just had to look for it. lol
|
Mike, I had an extra set of logos cut when I ordered mine. If you want them, let me know and I will drop them in the mail.
Ted |
Wow.....that would be great.....i was just heading downtown to see if i could get that done. Just let me know info so i can send you some money for them (via) etransfer?
Mike Nelson 8475 Silver Star road Vernon BC. V1B-3M7 Thanks Ted!!! |
No problem, Mike. I will be back at home Thursday night and I will get them in the post on Friday. No charge.
Ted |
Well..... thank you very much Ted! That is very nice of you!
Cheers neighbour! |
that looks awesome Mike, congratulations!
the video link is still not working for me, permissions look good but for some reason the video just hangs when I hit play... or it says an error has occured What is the story with the plasma? that does not look like it is going to be for foam relief! ;) .... are you planning a removable pan for the table? |
Thanks John! On post #27 try John Higgins link.....should work. Yes... change of plans, I added braces and now it should be stronger. I am going to have a removable aluminum waterbed table that should be able to be changed out in about 10 minutes with help from the water storage under the table bed that will have about 8 psi for under 2 minute fill of the waterbed. I still want to make a waterjet table.....just need to find a extra $35,000 hiding somewhere for the pump and then i should be good to go!
|
Wow...a MechMate waterjet! That would be a first. Are you planning to make a "removable waterbed" plasma table and then follow that with a waterjet? Should be very interesting.
|
Mike, the logos are in the mail. They said about a week.
Ted |
Yes John, that would be my plan. Guillermo from Venezuela (Meckmate member) has a thread that he started about his waterjet build......i wonder if he ever finished it?
|
Hey Ted, cool....cant wait to get a number for the machine!
Thanks again! |
