To me backlash is like a gost. I hear about it, but do not experiece it. Why worry about something if it is a potential hazard ? With the2 gears pulled against each other with a spring, will there be a backlash problem ?

KenC Sat 06 February 2010 01:37

IMHO, Backlash is not a ghost, it is an inevitable occurrence which will comes with wear & tear of mating surfaces. AFAIK, Even with correct design compensation, they will catch up eventually. I'm just hopping it the occurrence will not be too frequent ;)

I do hope the spring loaded gear meshing like what MM is having will work on rotary spur gears as well, I do see good reason why it should work. There will be a huge advantage in Gear Ratio to Size advantage. Not to mention cost saving as spur gears are the cheapest of all gear form.

Will follow this development with acute interest.

Kobus gave me the guts to go in for the arrangement- whats wrong in trying - afterall we have it everywhere on the mechmate, its only straight on the others and here its round (the rack)

:)

Besser Sun 07 February 2010 18:58

Yes spring loaded is the simple and effective anti backlash method. Getting fancy can mean headaches

See Toyota's pedal jam . . . . . for the side-conversation

Hay Pablo,

glad you found it useful. Could you share your experience with epoxy? Please include some photos. :)

PEU Wed 07 April 2010 18:45

made the photo frame, didn't had time to purchase the slow curing epoxy:

I plan to paint it black or a dark color and fill the circles with some bright color.

There's a chap here in Hyderabad making absolutely amazing
carved doors on his CNC. Worth a look -

Those doors are gorgeous. I would love to be able to do this on my MM when I finish my build.
Prasad, do you by chance have any contact info. on the person doing this work.

You should be able to email him to his gmail id - koithoju
Also, I have absolutely no connection to him in any way. and
only found his page from some other list.

Travish Fri 16 April 2010 20:18

Irfan,

You look like you are lovin your machine!

Hey quick question, What model number are you using for your Delta vfd? I'm considering the 2.2kw spindle with the Delta-B vfd here- http://store.pdscolombo.com/delta-si...se-p-1557.html .

Thanks,
Travis

javeria Sat 17 April 2010 12:57

Travis I use the M series VFD022M21A just a tad less than USD 300 here in India

Travish Sat 17 April 2010 18:27

Thanks Irfan.

What is the main difference between the Delta's? Some use the B series and some are using the M or the S series. I can't find any info on the major differences except they all seem like they will work. Can someone explain this?

Thanks,
Travis

javeria Tue 25 May 2010 08:25

lumberjack_jeff Tue 25 May 2010 08:37

That door really is spectacular. Well done.

javeria Tue 25 May 2010 10:47

wait till i get my hands on the finished (polished) doors

digger Tue 25 May 2010 11:34

Irfan,

your work should be in "web sites that inspire and wait budget to be approved'. What is your inspiration? Fantastic work. I like it.

javeria Tue 25 May 2010 11:58

Thanks for all the kind words

some facts on the door
1. Its 2 inch thick teak wood measuring 3x6ft each, the same design is repeated on the backside of the door
2. The original design was from a book originally used for a showcase and I and the architect who designed the building- together modified the design to accommodate in the door design
3. I suffered from back pain for a week after completing the doors :)
4. The wood was wet and would bend and twist- so 20% of the work you see on that door is manually done
5. It took me one week to finish the doors - a total of 4 and machining on both sides.

Kobus_Joubert Tue 25 May 2010 13:02

Well done Irfan. I like !!

domino11 Tue 25 May 2010 13:15

Irfan,
Excellent doors! Do you have a pic of the door closed with the full profile?

Are you building a bigger machine now then? :)

Claudiu Wed 02 June 2010 01:27

Irfan, show us the beauty of that complete door. Amazing work.

Art and Decoration is how good you can imagine or some times from a architect

quadtech Sat 25 August 2012 10:41

Irfan, no updates from you in a long while. Hope you are doing well.
Here's a pic of a very interesting Moroccan door which I found on the web.
Maybe you can find some nice patterns to use.
