Nils my machine is packed in a container all in pieces I can only assemble it in January when I move to my new workshop.Took a drive to the storage yard yesterday to see if it was still there.

I have used african rosewood for the tops. The kitchen was a revamp where we kept the layout and replaced all visable items ( pannels, doors, mouldings and some rotten units ).

I Am going shopping tomorrow for my Bosch router and some more bits and pieces at Hardware Centre JHB. ( Got some nice mula under the tree)

Most of the cutting that I will be doing will be with 16 mm melamine ( nesting ).I have a question to those who do it everyday.

What type of bit do I need to buy for cutting melamine?
What is prefered shank dia.? ( 12 mm or 8 mm )

Gerald what type of cutter do you use the most with mdf.
( will be nesting my doors also )
and in your part of the town if I need to get spiral down or up cut bits is there a company to sharpen it and do they sell bits also.

Alan_c Mon 29 December 2008 12:06

I would use 12 mm over 8mm as they are stronger, as long as you don't end up losing too much material in the cut.

Both Leuco (021 557 5364) (they may also have a branch in George ?) and Leitz in CT do spiral compression bits, and they sharpen as well. Another source is any stockist of BWP cutters, they also have spiral cutters in their catalog.

hennie Mon 29 December 2008 22:51

Alan most of the time I factor a 4>10 % wastage in my board product when we cut with the panel saw I can get away with the 12 mm bit. Thanks for the supplier will contact them when I have paid my way out of JHB with the toll gates

Kobus_Joubert Tue 30 December 2008 02:42

Stop moaning about Johannesburg...at least you can buy stuff here off the shelf most of the time......and we can SEE what we are breathing...:D

hennie Mon 26 January 2009 09:25

(Soos die skim in die nag). All good things come to those who wait!:)
Got three Big contracts that I am busy with and while the golden spoon is there I am creaming it.

hennie Mon 26 January 2009 09:58

Gerald how do you cope with rust? racks show rust ,wheels show rust, rails angle surface show some rust.( know the rails will be sorted once its working)
Would soaking them in oil work or Q20 ?
Have been at the coast for 3 years and bakkie just got fixed from rust.

Gerald D Mon 26 January 2009 10:12

We just rub on a little oil or grease. If the stuff is not going to be used soon, a light spray of Tectyl does the trick. (we get aerosol cans of Tectyl). Wrapping the parts in newspaper also helps.

Gerald D Mon 26 January 2009 10:15

Can you live with the new thread title? ;)
(Blame Kobus, he made me think of it):p

hennie Mon 26 January 2009 11:17
