Congrats John. She's looking beautiful.

Roadkill_321 Wed 23 April 2008 18:42

Hey, thanks guys for the comments. You are much too kind. :)

Roadkill_321 Sat 03 May 2008 00:55

Well here is another update. I have sent the drawing of my router mount in to Siemens' to have it lasercut, and they are doing inventory or something right now and haven't got time.

So, I went ahead and mounted the router temporarily with 5" exhaust clamps. I know it is the wrong way to do it but I was impatient. :)

It cuts and makes sawdust! I am having lots of fun practising on some scrap Melamine here. I just can't raise the Z too high or the muffler clamps will hit the bottom of the Y car. :o

I have already milled the top off a wood screw and run the collet into a clamp. No real serious damage but bad planning on my part. :o

Anyway, pictures will follow sometime, but right now we are just getting into seeding so am very busy.

John

Good news!

If you ever visit Siemens, tell Neville Mannoe I send my regards. He looks like Bin Ladin, but he is a staunch Catholic.

Its beautiful John, I admire the quality of cuts she makes. Nice Work.
I see that you have wrapped plastic sheet over something, is dust settling all over place :)

Gerald D Sat 03 May 2008 08:37

The green leaves through the window gives me hope for my visit to the northern hemisphere Thursday :)

That dirty blue machine makes my day! Thank you!

Your temporary router bracket reminded me of what ShopBot supplied for a 1000+ machines. I have put it in another thread.

Curious about your lasered bracket design. . . .

Gerald D Sat 03 May 2008 08:44

Oh, forgot . . . .

An air deflector mounted under your router will make a world of a difference to the anount of dust blown around the shop.

Any old plastic tub from the kitchen will do.

sailfl Sat 03 May 2008 15:39

Gerald,

Where is the drawing the air deflector?

Have a great trip!

Robert M Sat 03 May 2008 19:59

Drawing for this deflector…. Mmmm, it appears to be expired  …LOL
Robert ;) !!

Roadkill_321 Sat 03 May 2008 20:06

Thanks for the kind words Sharma. The pink plastic is a bag of fibreglass insulation that I didn't get in the walls of the shop this winter. :)

Gerald, I thought about sweeping off the machine but I knew you'd like it dirty. :) Anyway I'll post a .zip of the .dxf of that router bracket in the .dxf thread.

thanks
John

John,

Nice progress and beautiful work. Setting that bar high guy. :)

Doug_Ford Sat 03 May 2008 20:28

I'm impressed John. Really nice.

Just make sure that there is about a 10mm [3/8"] gap between the plastic and the router for the air to flow.

Try and select a tub/bottle without an expiry date on it. ;)

John,
How has your mechmate being coming along. Havent heard much in a while.

Roadkill_321 Thu 05 June 2008 22:47

Hi Heath,

It will be finished as soon as I get stickers on it. I've been cutting a few jobs here and there, but mostly just playing around on it, cutting different things.

I have been trying to learn about vinyl and acrylic signs and what the different methods of construction are. Trying to find and look at as many different styles of signs as I can to give me a few ideas.

Thanks for checking in on me. :) How is your Mechmate coming along?

John

Gerald D Thu 05 June 2008 23:27

John, would it be true to say that you no longer have concerns about getting the MechMate to a stage where it becomes a production tool? Solid, reliable, controllable, predictable? That is really the main issue for most of us - putting on decals is just a "ceremonial" thing. :)

Roadkill_321 Fri 06 June 2008 00:52

Hi Gerald,

No I have to say that I no longer am worrying about whether this thing is going to work or not. It cuts great, and I am happy to say that it has been making money for me already thanks to your brilliant design. :)

Glad to see you are back from your holiday.

John

Here is a little update. A while ago I sent away some drawings of a router bracket to my local laser cutter and here is a picture of them mounted on the machine.
Attachment 1540

I had to grind down the corners where the bracket meets the Z-slide because the brackets were the same width as the slide, not leaving room for the V rollers. Other than that they worked like a charm. They are made from 1/2" mild steel.

Here is a picture of the finished (until I get my dust collector figured out) MechMate minus the stickers. I was reading in another thread (I forget where) that Sean had mentioned cutting a mask and painting the logo on. That is probably what I am going to do. Great idea. :)

Anyway, thats it for now.

John

Greg J Tue 10 June 2008 20:53

John,

It's a great feeling to actually be cutting. Congrat's.

Doug_Ford Tue 10 June 2008 21:20

Looks great John and I really like that router bracket. Clean and simple.

Gerald D Tue 10 June 2008 22:48

Good stuff John!

Well, I finally got around to putting a logo on the side of this machine I have here. I cut a mask from 1/4" plywood and painted it on. A sticker would have been sharper, but this will do. Anyway, just wondering do I get a serial No. now? :)

Man oh man, look at that dust. :)

Nice work John.

Roadkill_321 Tue 24 June 2008 18:26

Yeah, I should have at least blown the dust off it before taking a picture. Sorry. :)

smreish Tue 24 June 2008 18:26

...serial #s just flying this month! nice:)

Greg J Tue 24 June 2008 18:36

Just given ya a hard time John. :)

Gerald D Tue 24 June 2008 20:55

That's a fine (dirty) pic! Of course you get #7!

hennie Tue 24 June 2008 23:45

Good one John!

Another number "lucky seven"

domino11 Wed 25 June 2008 07:33

John,
Congrats on lucky #7! :):):):)
