I took this pic this morning on my way to work.Looked like these youngsters had a rough night ( Plett Rage )Wish I had a shebeen:D

Gerald D Thu 04 December 2008 05:55

Ag fooitog, those kids heard that you go to Plett to spend a night on the tiles - and then they thought it was meant to be the roof tiles! :D

Hennie, did you know that shebeen comes from the Irish and the word was used in America?

Some more info on Plett Rage:
http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...=matrics+plett

Matriculants are kids who have finished high school, typically aged 18, the age at which they can buy liquor and get driver's licences. And Hennie's beach town (Plettenberg Bay) is where they go and let go. (our school year ends before the summer break, which is this week.)

hennie Thu 04 December 2008 06:50

I didn`t know from Irish but where I grew up in ( Fietta`s -Vrededorp Jhb) there were a couple of them I know what it is about.Raided a couple of them when I was in the SAP in the early 90`s.

Another week and my town is full of tourists.

Kobus_Joubert Thu 04 December 2008 22:48

Don't leave Margate on the Kwa-Zulu South Coast out of this matric rage thing..So many kids do stupid things during this time and pay for it the rest of their lives.

hennie Fri 12 December 2008 10:16

Ok. silly season is over so now I can spend some time to complete my MM.
Will take a break for the next 5 weeks then it is time for a new year again.
I can complete all the last bits but can not do final assemble until next year when I can move into my new workshop, what a bummer.

Kobus will be in Gangsters paradise from the 20th will contact you.

Gerald D Fri 12 December 2008 10:51

Just a note to those from the cold northern hemisphere:

Today, most industrial businesses closed their doors for the summer/Xmas holidays, out here in South Africa. We re-open our factories either 5 or 12 January, some even later.

domino11 Fri 12 December 2008 14:32

Gerald,
Wednesday this week, we had to close our schools for an ice rain storm that went through the area. :(

Gerald D Fri 12 December 2008 21:15

Heath, the first time I read your post, I read:
. . . . . we had to close our schools for an ice cream storm that . . . .
that is just our natural association with the word ice here at the beach in summer. :D

Kobus_Joubert Sun 14 December 2008 07:27

Doug_Ford Fri 19 December 2008 18:49

Beautiful work. I wish we had some of that gorgeous wood here in the US.

sailfl Fri 19 December 2008 21:08

Hennie,

Nice work. Did you cut the counter tops and back splash on your machine?

hennie Fri 19 December 2008 21:32

Nils my machine is packed in a container all in pieces I can only assemble it in January when I move to my new workshop.Took a drive to the storage yard yesterday to see if it was still there.

I have used african rosewood for the tops. The kitchen was a revamp where we kept the layout and replaced all visable items ( pannels, doors, mouldings and some rotten units ).

hennie Mon 29 December 2008 11:50

I Am going shopping tomorrow for my Bosch router and some more bits and pieces at Hardware Centre JHB. ( Got some nice mula under the tree)

Most of the cutting that I will be doing will be with 16 mm melamine ( nesting ).I have a question to those who do it everyday.

What type of bit do I need to buy for cutting melamine?
What is prefered shank dia.? ( 12 mm or 8 mm )

Gerald what type of cutter do you use the most with mdf.
( will be nesting my doors also )
and in your part of the town if I need to get spiral down or up cut bits is there a company to sharpen it and do they sell bits also.

Alan_c Mon 29 December 2008 12:06

I would use 12 mm over 8mm as they are stronger, as long as you don't end up losing too much material in the cut.

Both Leuco (021 557 5364) (they may also have a branch in George ?) and Leitz in CT do spiral compression bits, and they sharpen as well. Another source is any stockist of BWP cutters, they also have spiral cutters in their catalog.

hennie Mon 29 December 2008 22:51

Alan most of the time I factor a 4>10 % wastage in my board product when we cut with the panel saw I can get away with the 12 mm bit. Thanks for the supplier will contact them when I have paid my way out of JHB with the toll gates

Kobus_Joubert Tue 30 December 2008 02:42

Stop moaning about Johannesburg...at least you can buy stuff here off the shelf most of the time......and we can SEE what we are breathing...:D

hennie Tue 30 December 2008 09:43

hennie Tue 30 December 2008 09:44

And did I enjoy my shopping spree:D
