Kobus if you do offer make it low,That thing can make wooden basins.

hennie Sat 26 November 2011 05:55

Just had another thought My one arm bandit that I am building with a 1200x620 cutting area will fit in my budget of 1/2 of what that chap wants for the machine.

Kobus_Joubert Sat 26 November 2011 11:43

Thank's, will go in LOW and refit with Mach3 and 3kW spindle and see what happens.

Alan_c Sat 26 November 2011 14:54

I agree with Gerald, Wadkin was known for making really strong traditional machines, am not aware of them ever doing anything electronically controlled. They went bust before the upswing in NC controls of woodworking machines. The "Wadkin" machines available now in some markets are produced mostly in china and only have use of the name(correction some machines are still made in the UK, but still not quite like the old cast iron ones). They went bust because their machines were too good and lasted too long, not enough people replaced them if ever - I have a 1932 spindle in my factory with original oil pot electric overloads, works everyday - you cant kill these machines. Offer him just a bit more than scrap value, the fact that its got a controller on it is academic as its bust anyway.

Hi

Here is mine Wadkin CC2000 that I refit. to mach3.
some pic. and video

danilom Sun 27 November 2011 17:00

Very very very nice machine! Today industry sure discards some nice machines in favor to something new and a bit faster. Better for us enthusiasts!

Kobus_Joubert Sun 27 November 2011 23:07

Very very nice...so getting rid of the HEAVY spindle motor that was on there and putting watercooled spindles on, did it improve the Z-axis resolution for 3D work.

KenC Mon 28 November 2011 01:00

wet my floor drooling....

Kobus_Joubert Mon 28 November 2011 03:21

Hi Ken, can I ship it tomorrow over to you. :D
The guy accepted my offer. I am in the process of getting a rigging company to give me a quote for moving the thing.

KenC Mon 28 November 2011 04:00

Kobus, I'm up for adoption... :D

Alan_c Mon 28 November 2011 06:17

Well done, thats probably going to cost you more than you paid for it (moving it...and adopting Ken!!!!)

mikefoged Tue 29 November 2011 02:01

It have one air cylinder connected to a chain that again is connected to the Z axis. so you just adjust the air pressure until it pulls with the right kg on the Z axis. just like the gas spring on the mechmate

sailfl Tue 29 November 2011 08:20

Mike,

What do you cut with your fancy two spindle machine?

mikefoged Tue 29 November 2011 09:23

I cut mostly plastic parts for one of my customer

Kobus_Joubert Tue 29 November 2011 09:23

2 of each...:D

PEU Wed 30 November 2011 05:33

And since mach3 control cabinets are so small, you can use that old control space as a shower for hot days :D :D

Kobus_Joubert Wed 30 November 2011 22:11

Not my weekend

This weekend was not the best.
I had to do to many things...can't we work on weekends and stay home during the week to play with our machines :D
My wife finished 2 x stained glass windows and I had to go and fit it.

I am also making 2 x wine tables for a friend. Solid white oak with carved grapes on the top with a glass top reccessed into the wood.

Carving took about 3 hours on this 600mm top. At the end I checked and found the glass to be a bit tight. Thought I will give it another 0.2mm freedom for the movement of the wood.
This is where it all went wrong.
I thought 0.2mm off an existing cut 6mm deep in one pass...NO PROBLEM in oak.
Somehow my program thought I wanted to cut with a 1.5mm bit....all day I was working with the 6.35mm bit.
Result is that the 1.5mm code put the 6.35mm cutter into virgin wood....by the time I got the message and hit the e-stop it was to late.

Thank's Hennie for that sleeper wood you gave me at our Woodworkers show.
I made something special for a special friend.
The bottom piece I got from another friend in exchange for some cutting work.
I think it is also teak, just about 100 years younger.

hennie Fri 09 December 2011 10:13

Kobus_Joubert Fri 09 December 2011 11:03

No problem, they are looking for people to give talks....as long as there are some free bamboo samples..

hennie Fri 09 December 2011 20:12

KenC Fri 09 December 2011 21:46

uitstekende vakmanskap Kobus!

You are making great use of your indexer! :)

Brad Maritz Thu 22 December 2011 23:02

That looks very nice. Did you turn the base?

Kobus_Joubert Thu 22 December 2011 23:13

Sorry to dissapoint you guy's, but the time was against me, so a friend turned the base by hand while I did the carving.
I like your AFRIKAANS Heath :D

MariusL Fri 23 December 2011 04:20

Kobus,
What wood did you use on the table?

Kobus_Joubert Fri 23 December 2011 06:14

Normal White Oak

Kobus_Joubert Fri 23 December 2011 08:03

Question to my computer geek friends out there.
I want to change the display size on a LED monitor. Full display must be about 25mm smaller than the border. I don't mind the Black frame around the edge, as long as the program (for instance Mach) is displayed correctly on this smaller screen.
I don't want to 'Restore Down' to make the Mach screen smaller because then not all Mach pictures are displayed.
I have a small 15 inch screen that I will fit in my new Wadkin CNC.
If I put it on the inside of my box then the X-size is about 20mm too wide.
I can make it fit on the Outside of the box, but would prefer the inside fitment.
...And I don't want to buy a smaller screen..;)
Thank's

domino11 Fri 23 December 2011 08:08

Awww, here I thought that was done on your indexer! :):D

Hope I got it right, I might have said you car needs an oil change. :D:eek:
