Hi Hennie
Here is the list of items orderd from RS, its not cheap, but it is the cheapest option for us, these are genuine IGUS chain components. the codes listed are RS part numbers - I dont have the IGUS equivalent numbers at hand at the moment, that info is at home. 2x / 486-8715 Y-car chain @ R334.85 = R669.70 2x / 486-8737 Gantry chain @ R349.41 = R698.82 1x / 486-8793 Y-Car brackets @ R46.72 = R46.72 (pair) 1x / 486-8800 Gantry brackets @ R48.06 = R48.06 (pair) --------- R 1463.30 VAT R 204.86 ---------- Total delivered to my door R 1668.12 These chains come in 1m lengths (22 links ea) so for the Y-car you will have 13 links left over after joining the two as required and the Gantry chain will have 3 links over (note that is for 2750 x 1830 size machine) I may use the left over small chain for the Z-axis to make that look neater - but thats a finer detail. |
Thanks Alan

Hennie, here is the parts list comparison between RS and IGUS
486-8715 - 200.03.075.0 486-8737 - 200.05.075.0 486-8793 - 2030.12PZ 486-8800 - 2050.12PZ its easy to order off their website |
Cables
1 Attachment(s)
Received all my cables today, proxy`s,and connectors
still waiting for a seven pin connector. |
With the R/$ exchange rate looking better at this moment you must get those motors NOW !!:)
|
The thought did cross my mind since yesterday hope the R/$ rate is the same this afternoon.

This question is for Mike Richards
Is Free doors your baby? I have read on a sb thread about this excell program and with Bruce Clark you did this program together. I have downloaded It quite a while ago. If so Would it work on my MM ( stupid question )Note that I would like to use it but I havn`t mastered importing and exporting files from one program to the other . In my part of the country I still have a market for mdf doors. |
Got some courage to cut the rails
3 Attachment(s)
Started cutting the rails down. Look at a carpenters method of building a slide to cut down the rails again some off cut material and bobs your uncle.
Kobus made the gadget with the same tape we are talking about put some screws on top just in case it moves.Took me longer to get the hight right then to make it. Took +/- 15 min to cut through the first rail with one & half disks. The objective is to cut both rails from one side.Had to go home the boss called they wanted to go and watch whales. |
Gantry Primed Ready For Rails
2 Attachment(s)
Primed gantry and spider plate nearly ready for assembly
|
I hope that yellow grinder is not an Einhell from Trade Centre. They are fine for cutting the rail but grinding the bevel they are not very strong. Nice going Hennie
|
No, it is a De Walt Last much longer! I try to keep the el cheepo`s on display for affirmative shopping purposes,You know what I mean:). I have a Bosch for the bevel grinding on my laser cut gadget.Reason why I made the funny wooden block is that my angle iron is 60 x 60 and you have experiance in using the grinding skate ,hight is a problem and I wasnt prepaired to pay more for other angle iron.
Would like to do some more but I am baby sitting today. |
Ok, one more thing, Now that I see your Y-Car with the cable chain bracket....make sure you either have a halfnut on the bottom, or countersink it from the bottom and put the nut on the top. In my build the nut on the bottom caught on the nut from the V-Wheel if I remember correctly..
|
Did some more cutting on the y-rails (second one ).It is not such a bad job, dirty yes!I did manage to cut both rails down from one side. wil post pic`s tomorrow, will try and do the x-rails also.

rails

Pic 1 shows what was left of the disk for the back rail did not even finished the disk only used that one disk.
pic2 &3 shows rails back to back cut from one side |
Grinding Of 45 Deg Angle
4 Attachment(s)
This is what I came up with tried it and it worked.used the same flat surface as what I used to cut the rails down.I did the one side 60 mm wide then moved to the other 60 mm side I then losened the one rail finished the other side of the first rail.I am quite impressed with the way the rails came out with considering that I did use a verry low tech way of doing it.
|
I think the big lesson out of Hennie's (and Alan's) methods are to screw the rails to a "reference" board.
Mooi gedoen jong seun! :) |
Dankie oom!:D

rails after grinding
2 Attachment(s)
Rail done on both sides.Note to Geralds remark make sure that the table or surface that the grinding is to be done on is level , flat , straight.
|
Mooi so, jy kom aan, I still have to do my x-rails, have you done all the rails?
|
No, still have to do them this week.
|
Nice going....it's time you finish up and start cutting, I am sure we can exchange cutting files one of these day's.
|
Gerald on drawing m1 20 220 ( bearing support base)
can one use 16 mm rod as supplied and then dril the hole in the centre rather then using 20 mm? |
That would be okay if you welded it to the spider, to give it a firm footing.
|
Johan I will cut some for you over the weekend.I have made myne according to the drawing.
|
Thanks Boet! I will send you my electrical diagram soon, as promised. Bit busy here at work. I am in the process of adding the last finishing touches.
|
Played with the motors tonight getting the kitchen/study table project together.PLayed with mach inputs & outputs and got to a stage where I need to look at the wires coming out of the motors 8 wires fine, next opened the Fulling pdf file and starting to sort it out but for some reason some "poepol" in the east changed the colours of the wires.can someone direct me to a thread or advise me how to test so I can wire it up.?(please).:confused:Only colours that does mach to make a coil is black & white.
|
Hennie, what wire colours are coming out of your motor? Photo?
What are the markings on the motor? At minimum: model number. At best: small wiring diagram. What does your supplier have to say about it? Edited to add: Are you saying that your multimeter only finds one coil? The other 6 wires must make 3 more identical coils. This 7MB pdf from Fulling, updated Jan 2007, shows a couple of the diagrams they use. I couldn't spot your ST86ST125 3508 AG3 in there, but your colours may match of of the other models? |
Okay, your motor is on page 31, but the wiring diagram is not shown for that model?
|
Gerald I mailed you the pdf and I presume that the black and white makes a coil .I will check it later this morning. There is one diagram of an 8 wire connection.
|
Ok, managed to get the coils right for every solid colour there is a white wire with the corresponding colour on it. Now only to figure out which coils go with each other .
Does anybody have the colour codes for resistors ( colour rings around the resistors)had it written down many moons ago .LIke to sharpen the knife in the drawer:D |
Hennie, I havn't got any mail from you yet. I think the diagram on page 29 of the PDF linked above will apply for you:
blue/white blue red/white red ..................................green/white_____green.............................. black/white_____black Don't trust the colours on the resistors - only trust what a multimeter tells you. Many people (myself included) have gotten those colours wrong for the only 10 minutes in the project when you need to pick the value for the drives. Not worth scrambling the old brain cells for an hour to shorten those 10 minutes :) What is your power supply voltage? That is going to decide the 8 wires and the resistor. |
Problem !
black/black white pink / pink white orange/orange white yellow/yellow white not the same colour wires as on the diagram. 42 volts |
Are you sure you aren't a bit colour blind? Get a second opinion from the boss :)
Do you know anyone else using these motors? |
Would you ask someone who dyes their hair what colour it is:D
Will post pic`s of the motors later. |
That's the person you would ask. they can see the difference in the smallest amount of shade change, not to mention a completely different color.:D
|
...but the heck we receive from the boss if we don't notice their color change when they come home from the salon!

Thanks Doug!
For the okes in the east red suddenly became pink and the BOSS agree I am not colour blind.Open the purse and see the colours vanish for that colour change.:)at the Hair Dresser. |
Have anybody Thought about convertng the MM into a foam cutter for making cornices?
Had sleapless nights about this, watch this space it is going to get interresting.what I did thought of is keep the main table 1 meter long, gantry stays the same length as what we are using for our 1830 mm wide board and have the z-axis fixed with steel wires running from one side to the other. a 2 axis machine. |
Fulling motors with 3:1 gearbox For peaple thats colour blind.

Gerald managed to figure out what goes where ( look at the colour wires )
