Will make them this weekend as I have a lot of small bits & pieces will only weld them on once rails are on to make sure.

hennie Fri 20 June 2008 01:54

Gerald

Regarding the v-rollers I have phoned the cnc company and they are doing the v-rollers in EN8 steel

To all the local builders I got a quote for the v-rollers to be made by a local engineering company and the cost are R 50.00 each incl.

I have ordered them and lead time is 7 days. Will see what quality is like once I get them.

Kobus_Joubert Fri 20 June 2008 02:21

Hi Hennie, just do your sums...R50.00 sounds cheap, but are they then hardened and ground? What about bearings.
14 wheels @ R50.00 = R 700.00
28 bearings @ R30.00 = R 840.00
Already R1540.00...Hardening / grinding?
I tried that way, but in the end bought the correct wheels from Rick...+/-R2000.00 for wheels and bushes landed in SA. They are very good quality.

hennie Fri 20 June 2008 03:11

Hi Kobus

14 weels at R 49.02 = R 686.28
28 bearings at R 23.65 = R 662.20
Total = R 1348.48
hardening/grinding ( en8 steel / lets see the end product )
Saving of R2000 .00 - R 1348.48 = R 651.52
LESSON LEARNED.!
R 651.52 gives me 3 Saturday mornings at the Wimpy with the kids priceless:)

Kobus_Joubert Fri 20 June 2008 03:34

Saturday morning, night etc. YOU should be building that MM

hennie Fri 20 June 2008 03:38

Already in trouble with the BOSS slept on the sofa last night and did a lot of channel hopping:(

Started with the box need to order another 8 amp integrated power supply board

hennie Mon 23 June 2008 12:24

Ordered my motors today I will be using Fulling motors ST86ST125 3508 AG3
RATED VOLTAGE 4.97 volts , CURRENT 3.5 AMPS holding torque 76 kg/cm
and it comes with a 3:1 reduction gearbox.

Alan_c Mon 23 June 2008 13:49

From where and for how much?

hennie Mon 23 June 2008 23:10

Hi Alan

The total cost for all four is R 4800,00 but I still need to get them in Plett from JHB.I should pay about R 800 to get them in town.Got them from someone that is also building a MM and have them on his machine. If I am not mistaken there are 6 motors left.If you are interested send me your number and I will set you up with supplier.
Is your machine working or are you still building I missed out somewhere?

Alan_c Mon 23 June 2008 23:55

Still building... slowly

hennie Tue 24 June 2008 00:23

I am also going slowly still need to earn a living.

Kobus_Joubert Tue 24 June 2008 01:25

....still need to earn a living.

Eina ! that hurts...I am also working and building and having a braai and keeping mommy happy, but come on guys, there are 24 hours in the day....Eish, you Capies are slow and laid back ...:D I am just brave because mine is together...but don't worry, there is still a long way before it is FINISHED. Good luck you two.

hennie Tue 24 June 2008 02:33

And fishing and building a house and whale watching and a small town that knows if you work " make noise" after mommy went to bed and last but not least have a Mitchell`s without eisch where Tappa`s used to be in Knysna.

hennie Thu 03 July 2008 04:11

To all that know.

I need to order my proxy`s is there any spec`s on these things. Went to my electrical supplier and he made me feel like a kid in a sweet shop. Which ones do I use?

smreish Thu 03 July 2008 04:35

Hennie,
I am replying on my blackberry and cant show you the link. I detailed a bill of materials and parts list for reference in my personal thread.

Thanks

Lex Fri 04 July 2008 05:14

Hennie,
Ek gaan die Motion king 34hs 9801 gebruik. Die kontak van Kobus, het net twee steppers oor. Hy sou vir my uitvind vir nog maar het nooit terug gekom nie.
Dit is dieselfde persoon by wie jy jou motors gekoop het.

hennie Fri 04 July 2008 06:50

hennie Fri 04 July 2008 07:00

Johan hoe ver is jy?

Lex Fri 04 July 2008 08:36

Ek sal volgende week weet of my fondse goed gekeur gaan word. Dit lyk belowend:D Dan sal ek die elektriese parte aanskaf. Daai groot berg klim. Dis hoe ver ek is.

Some progress on the blacksmith side of things (my Saturday morning).

Gerald D Sun 06 July 2008 00:44

I don't think those fishing rods are seeing much use these days :)

hennie Sun 06 July 2008 23:15

You are dam right! weather is not that user friendly and as you can see I am at that stage of once you start building you can`t stop. Those are the little ones rods.:)

hennie Mon 07 July 2008 08:38

Gerald on your first machine you used the makita. The base that you mounted this router onto was that a "spoeg & plak " idea till it worked or did you eventually had somethig made cnc cut.I have one of those routers that will end up in the machine and will be used until such time that christmas comes for me to buy a spindle. Is there any measurements for that base somewhere that I can ues to make one.I also have two ryobi`s (industrials) that I can use the only thing is that to get spares ( collets 1/2 inch.) for them is a mission.Tried to get once from a crowd in George waited four weeks and got wrong collets.Ended up buying the makita.

Gerald D Mon 07 July 2008 09:16

Hennie that base was knocked together from scrap lying around here. That's why it is mostly stainless steel and has a million holes drilled into it! :o. We will be selling our first MechMate soon, with that bracket, and one very worn Makita. (The first of the five tables I am busy with now will replace that one because it is too small at 8'x4')

hennie Mon 07 July 2008 22:53

For what its worth I will send you a drawing and maybe compare it with the bracket.regarding that other drawing , I dont know why the hole doesn`t show it is probably my drawing program ( Delta Cad) although it shows on this side.
What would be the suggested steel thickness for a bracket to hold this router as I would like the cnc company cutting it for me.

Gerald D Mon 07 July 2008 23:49

Our Makita bracket is 8mm thick

Calculating volts & amps

Hi All!

Let me start of by asking all that know, this is where I stop and ask a lot of questions?
I would put down what I have and know and please correct me where I am wrong.

I have the following electrical items.

1. 300 VA - 42 vdc transformer
2. integrated power supply with 8 amp rating
3. 4 steppers Fulling ( ST 86ST 125 350 8 ag3 with 3:1 gearbox )

Specs for motors.

-rated voltage - 4.97
-current -3.5
-resistance -1.47 ohm
-mh inductance- 7.9
-holding torque -76 kg.cm

What I have learned.

4x steppers @ 3.5 amp = 14 amp total
Desired transformer current
67% of 14 = 9.38 amp

20 x 9.38 = 187.60 VA ( optimum voltage )(desired volt amp rating)

Power supply voltage.

rated voltage 4.97 x 20 = 99.4 VDC

Desired transformer voltage

42 vdc / 1.4 = 30 VAC

VA required for motors.(transformer)
42 x 3.5x 4 x .67= 393.96 VA

Right the questions?
Am I right in saying that my transformer is not sufficient to cope ( 300 VA )
Am I right in saying that my current supply of 8 amp is not enough. ( 9.38 amp needed)
If 20 x 4.97 = 99.4 x (4 steppers )= 393.96 the VA rating of the transformer must be more than 400 VA.
and would connecting the motors bi polar half winding or bi polar full winding also affect the above.

( Sorry for asking but dropped out of studying electrical engineering after 3 months ,got bored and went to the army.Best time of my life that I would never want over again.I would like to read up some more if someone knows where on the net.If it doesn`t make sence this is what happens at 1 in the morning:confused:)
