Maybe :)

I am working on another sign but also have to watch the kids. So finishing a sign takes a lot of time for me. The kids like to play Chinese Checkers so I thought why not draw one up in Aspire. This is the rendered image of the wavefront obj that I exported from Aspire and rendered in Blender.

The kids and the older kids will have a lot of fun with that. Very nice.
|
That is what I am hoping too. Thanks for the kind words.
|
Pete, beautiful board. have you tried blender cam? it's a WIP, but looks to be very promising.
|
No I haven't, but I will watch and see how it matures.
|
Just cut, no sanding or finishing yet.

Very cool. What type of bit did you use?
|
Wow, very nice! Looking on ebay, I see boards going for over $100 and not near as nice as what you have done.
|
Darren,
I used many bits. 90 & 60 degree V bits, 1/4" & 1/2" round nose, ogee, 1/4" spiral upcut. All Freud and Onsrud bits. DB, The funny thing is I was looking for a nice board and saw the prices then I thought I have wood here, why don't I make one. |
wow, great attention to details.
|
Outstanding once again Pete. Would love to learn something like Blender, Rhino etc but time seems to be against me these days. One day maybe.....
|
Working on an new screenset for Mach for personal use. There is either way more stuff than I need or not enough. Using design ideas from different screensets I like.
On another note, I sure do mess up my spelling and grammar. Looking back through different posts I have made, there is a lot of mistakes. Sure wish there was a way to erase the stupidity and correct them. |
Ah, do you have a Delorian?
|
Pete,
I am waiting until Mach 4 comes out. It will be easier to change things, if it ever actually happens. |
I was waiting also but I got tired. :)
|
You can start working on a Mach4 screen right now with the demo that's available for download.
|
Finally finished a sign I was working on. I will post the pictures on Monday after I give it to fellow I made it for. I don't want him to see the pictures on Flickr before I give it to him.
|
Looking forward to it.
I had that happen once, customer saw a project on FB before it was delivered. |
Russell inspired this post. It is about the results of the cyclone I made based on the Pentz cyclone plans.

I would recommend building one to anyone. I have more pictures on Flickr if anyone wants to see them. |
Pete yours looks a little cleaner than mine. I think my next upgrade will be a bigger fan and motor. I am just using the HF dust collector for now. Either way yours is impressive. Can you take a pic of the overall view.
|
|
Pete, did you do the development drawing "by-hand" or software generated?
|
It was all drawn out in cad first. The sheet metal was drawn with a permanent marker with the machine.
|
Here they are. Click on any picture to open up in Flickr for more viewing options. The sign needed to sit on a table. It needed a stand that could travel easy and take up little space. On the back there are two EZ Lok thread adapters. Using two 1/4"-20 bolts the sign hangs in place with those.

Very nice work.... What software for the modeling?
Have you finished cutting out those ladybugs yet??:D |
Aspire for the model.
The title I have asked to be changed to something more relative but no such luck yet. |
I thought you used Aspire. Looks like v5 might be previewed at the Oct. user group meeting in Orlando.
I knew you were wanting a title change, so I thought I'd bring it up.....;) |
How long have you been working on that ladybug Pete? A year? You might want to try a different insect...like a Bee or something...:) Oh really like the sign, sharp.
|
Thanks fellas.
|
But I like the Lady Bug. You guys keep it up and I am going to make one of you a moderator !!!
Been on the road with my new gig !!! I love the signs !!! |
Thanks, Mike

Everything in moderation...

Cool! - A South African originated machine cutting a sign about a South African originated goat breed in Pennsylvania USA.

Pete
Could you elaborate a little on the sign process? Looks like 1x poplar wood? Did you edge glue a couple of 1 x 6's? (not sure of the finished sign dimensions). And the part that I have no clue about, is painting? Prime the whole sign then ? is that all freehand, stencil, taped off....? Mark |
Mark, it is poplar. I bought it glued together planed and sanded. I can't beat the local prices of the local wood planing mills. Cheaper than buying the wood and gluing myself. It was sized to 30" x 30" 1.25". It was edge glued. The highest part of the sign was 1.22". The painting was in this order, primed it all, the top coat was all hand painted (freehand no taping); all lettering is V carved and hand painted (again freehand and no taping); all pieces were finished with a satin sealer. Painting is not my strong point but I was very pleased with the end result.
|
Thanks Pete...that's why I had to ask....looks like it was taped and sprayed...not sure my freehand will turn out like that...we'll see.
Thanks again for sharing! Mark |
|
Looks great ! Nice of you to keep showing your work, it's motivational !
I do notice some milling marks in the pockets, might it be your z is not 100% perpendicular !? |
I only clamped it in 3 places. Wood moves a lot when you remove more than 3/4 the thickness and I did not account for that. I was a little shocked to see it myself after all the pocket is very small. I have seen it more with smaller cutters then larger ones. It left a stepped effect look but the kids don't care. They liked helping paint it.
