Hennie,
Did you make the vacuum table yourself or did you buy one. I am looking at building one soon.

HomeMadeCnc Sat 26 March 2011 11:29

I think building this machine was the easy part, so much to learn on how to use it now. Awesome job!

Tim

hennie Sat 26 March 2011 12:34

With Interrest +/- R420 000.00 I won`t tackle building one.

MariusL Sat 26 March 2011 16:58

I have done a number of vacuum tables. I did some home work on the foil machine and might attempt it. The only bit I am still stuck with is the heater.

Hybrid MM

This is not an idea to better my MM or anything else and I am not opening a can of worms for another discussion I need to get a machine working with a cutting table of 1200 x 600.I have my MM that I can source parts from to get this running and I know it can work I have a month to do it and I would need some input from anybody( please ).I have a container that it is going to stand in and that is why I need to downscale as it is going to be on site.
The concept is to have a movable x-axis table with the y-axis and z-axis stationary. As we all know the MM parts work so the question is will the concept work.I am posting this rough drawing to show the idea.

zumergido Sat 30 April 2011 11:04

iam not and expert but you will need double of space and have to have in mind how much weight will handle the x axis motor since you will vary your materials.

hennie Sat 30 April 2011 11:12

I have the length in space but it is the width that I need to make a plan with. Motors can handle the weight I am using my MM ones with a 3:1 gearbox.I won`t be cutting at high speed so losing steps won`t be a issue. Will be cutting 18 mm shutter ply precut to 1200 x 600 mm in size.

gorantec Sat 30 April 2011 12:52

hennie

can you please let me know how much cost foils and what dimesion is foil ?

hennie Sat 30 April 2011 12:59

Gorantec, foil width is from 1200mm to 1400 mm.I don`t know the cost in your country but try google a foil supplier Renolit.

Gerald D Sat 30 April 2011 14:37

Hennie, if that machine is going to be in the container permanently, you can mount a pair of x-rails to the roof (ceiling) of the container. (nothing wrong with your concept either)

zumergido Sat 30 April 2011 21:19

great idea gerald but if the container is exposed to the sun and changes of temperature the metal will expand and contract and move the axis.
but iam imagin a huge axis moving on the ceiling like a crain... mmmmm sounds interesting .. double purpose crain and axis.. mm... double mmmm... ther is no think emoticon

hennie Sat 30 April 2011 21:51

Gerald I will PM you.Fernando I had times in my workshop where we had hot and humid days and the metal did get hot in such a state that one can feel the change it didn`t affect the cutting of the project.Remember the MM is verry forgiving.

hennie Sat 30 April 2011 23:20

Ok Gerald I should have seen it ( no PM`s).Will meet up for Coffee soon.I had a look at if I take the MM and use a board cutting width of 600 mm it would still fit in the width that I have available and ok some 2700 mm long cutting surface.Stupid idea I had:o but it can work. Now to order some steel for new mini, mini gantry.Alan I will touch base with you later once I have been to Stellenbosch and see what is involved.

Bucket list

While I was visiting my parents in JHB I stumbled on my first woodwork project that `n did when I was 16 years old in my final matric year.It was a clock that I never had time to complete or can I say started thinking with something else.Only need to make a frame to hold the face for the clock. Will put it on my to do list when my MM is in JHB.

Kobus_Joubert Mon 09 May 2011 08:56

Poor parents...they had to look at a uncompleted clock for the last 50 years....time flies :D

JHb Project

5 Attachment(s)
This is my JHB project that I am busy with, only drawers to go on and then it is complete. The florals was done by a chap in the east who has a MM but don`t know how to use a broom. The fluted posts was done by a chap in Randburg who also has a MM but pays someone to use his broom. The rest was done by a chap in the Westrand who also have a MM but can`t use it and also have a broom somewhere either in Plett or up here in JHB. Thanks Kobus and Brad For the Help.

Kobus_Joubert Wed 06 July 2011 08:35

It all started with boxes

5 Attachment(s)
I started playing with boxes and it ended up being shelving. The boxes hang on the same slots that the shelving brackets hang on to.

KenC Sun 02 October 2011 02:11

That is a neat idea! Perfect for my shop organising!

Alan_c Sun 02 October 2011 03:22

Nogal slim ne? - Very nice, are those Rodrigues boards?

hennie Sun 02 October 2011 08:53

Alan, I have no idea what boards those were they were from Brazil 18 mm shutter ply paid R 256.00 a sheet.I see you had a delivery also what was the price of those you got delivered

Alan_c Sun 02 October 2011 09:12

Price going up this week, but managed to secure a few bundles at R195.00 ea exc vat (increase said to be about 6%) - importers are very sneaky, bring the boards in having paid for them when the leave the country of origin but keep them in Dollar value, when you buy them if the Rand has dropped they then charge you the current exchange rate, if not then at the rate they paid. (bundles currently in stock at the importers took a jump last week when the Rand had a stutter)

The quality of the import board varies quite a bit, about three weeks back I could only get ones with an incredibly thin face ply and bright orange glue, this latest batch is manufactured by Rodrigues in Brazil, face plys are nice and thick and is proported to be the Rolls Royce of shutter ply, however there are still many faults with these boards and that referance may be a bit of an insult to Mr's R&R.

MariusL Sun 02 October 2011 09:29

Hennie,
That is a great idea man. Do you mind sharing the files?

hennie Sun 02 October 2011 23:17

Alan did you get them from davidsons?Marius at the moment I can`t busy negotiating a contract with a huge building supplier to market the product.

MariusL Mon 03 October 2011 00:19

Wow Hennie, that is great. I hope your negotiations go well. I will buy some when they come out.

Kobus_Joubert Mon 03 October 2011 01:05

No wonder Hennie is not BUGGING me lately...he is BUSY :D

MariusL Mon 03 October 2011 01:22

Kobus, there comes a time in every boy's life when he becomes a man and start doing his own thing. I think our Hennie has ventured into big business.

Alan_c Mon 03 October 2011 01:35

Hennie, not from Davidsons, got this lot through Airton Timbers (came direct from Merenskys store - the importers) quite a big savings on the quantity of boards.

Good luck with your negotiations, hopefully its not with that group of building suppliers with warehouses all over the country - they want the stuff for less than it costs you to manufacture and then if the mood takes them they can return large quantities for credit, plus you have to pay for shelf space, marketing etc etc, oh and dont forget the rebate they demand at the end of the month based on orders placed with you!!!!! - be very strong in negotiations and be prepared to walk away if the deal is not absolutly in your favour.

hennie Mon 03 October 2011 05:11

Kobus, I am always busy ( planning next machine to cut bamboo only )thought you are in the states on your trip.Where is your last pit stop.do you have space for a Webber Carburator in your suitcase.
Marius let me know what you need then I will cut it for you.
Alan, no not for them but will give you a call.( I am in Cape town this weekend with the family meeting up with a client).

Kobus_Joubert Mon 03 October 2011 05:38
