Thanks, Robert.

racedirector Thu 15 August 2013 23:41

Wow, thats cool!

Andrew_standen Sat 17 August 2013 04:07

That's interesting, looks real good

darren salyer Thu 22 August 2013 19:31

Rust paint is backordered, so I sprayed some red oxide primer on it and "bolted" it to the wall. I'll take it down and "rust" it when I get the material.

Awesome job!

darren salyer Mon 23 September 2013 22:08

Not really CNC related, but similar.....
I broke down and bought a vinyl cutter this month, and I'm finding it way easier to draw in Aspire and export as an EPS than to draw in the software package that came with the machine.
A benefit should be that I'm able to cut vinyl to fit whatever I cut on the MM.
I'm already thinking of the possibilities of these two working together.....

Hans Tue 24 September 2013 04:05

Did you buy this? http://donektools.com/
I am considering it - adds extra business opportunities for the MM

danilom Tue 24 September 2013 06:09

Hans I bought this holder, made a small floating head from a inkjet printer guide and added 100gr of shims on top of it

darren salyer Tue 24 September 2013 06:53

I thought about that very seriously, Hans.
In the end, this looked like a better value.
No muss, no fuss, straight to cutting vinyl, while the MM plugs away cutting wood.

Wall Gear

The wall gear is awesome. The paint job makes the foam seem real.

oficina do corten Wed 09 October 2013 04:50

wow! very nice work! i will try a litle project with gear like this while my MM its still on hold. Thanks for this inspirational piece!

darren salyer Sat 12 October 2013 11:33

Cut this out of the leftover foam from the gear. I'll hang it over the 65 Mustang Fastback I've been working on even longer than the MM..
Any ides for a cool finish?

Axel1966 Sat 12 October 2013 13:26

Hi, very nice cut Daren !
What about a all over glossy white lacker, then a fill with epoxy resin with translucent blue dye in the grooves ?

darren salyer Sat 12 October 2013 14:08

That would be pretty expensive. The background is routed .5" deep. and the border and letters are proud.
Great idea, though....

racedirector Sat 12 October 2013 21:01

A Ford man, I love it! Currently watching our Bathurst 1000km race in Aus rooting for the Fords....

lonestaral Sat 12 October 2013 21:17

Owned 3 Ford's once upon a time.

How about a matt black background with gold letters and rim.

Call me old fashioned....

Another coat of white, and this one goes on the wall. All scrap and leftovers. Zero out of pocket.

pblackburn Mon 14 October 2013 19:53

That looks to be the 20s through 50s logo, is that correct.

lonestaral Mon 14 October 2013 19:57

I never noticed that Ford is written as Feord.

darren salyer Mon 14 October 2013 20:02

Not sure about the logo years, the local Ford dealers sign looks the same as this one, and its only been in business 20 yrs or so.

servant74 Mon 14 October 2013 20:22

Several logo's are here.. Since 1912 the Ford has had the 'e' curl on the end of the F. So it has apparently been around for a while.

darren salyer Tue 15 October 2013 07:44

Based on Petes link, I'd say he is correct. Looks like the logo that started in 1927.
I posted a pic on the Mustang group I frequent, and it was very well received.

My new friend Rex......I'll see if I can find him a home in a classroom somewhere.

Robert M Sat 02 November 2013 04:20

Nice rex....Darren !
I'd say leave him there.....a nice "watch" dog while your out :p

BTW...witch foam did you use for your FORD logo ?
Tks, Robert

darren salyer Sat 02 November 2013 08:25

Thanks Robert.
I picked the foam up from Menards. It is called Foamular 250.
Less than 30 bucks a sheet, just be sure to get the non scored sheet.

Robert M Sat 02 November 2013 09:15

Tks.... ;)

pblackburn Sat 02 November 2013 11:08

Which 3d CNC package did you get? I looked at many of them but was unsure of the quality of product.

darren salyer Sat 02 November 2013 17:12

I'm using Vectric Aspire v4.0.

pblackburn Sat 02 November 2013 17:14

I knew you had Vectric. I have seen that 3D puzzle before in different sets. Did not know if you purchased a set of dxf files or if you drew it yourself?

darren salyer Sat 02 November 2013 17:19

Ahhh.
I bought the file from MakeCNC.com. For $4.50 I figured it was a good one to try.
It includes files for 1/8", 1/4" and 1/2" ply. I'm happy with it.

pblackburn Sat 02 November 2013 17:23

I looked there before at their volume sets for making 3D puzzles for the kids. I will most likely make the move now. Did not know anyone who made them. Some shady websites out there. Thanks for the info.

darren salyer Sat 02 November 2013 17:26

I had the same thought. That's why I tried just one at first.

pblackburn Thu 07 November 2013 16:54

So I got a couple volumes. I hope to cut some of them when I am on vacation in a couple of weeks.

darren salyer Thu 07 November 2013 20:59

Be sure to share pics....
