Thanks Bruce. Fun watching the video. Similar but different. I machine a top and bottom then apply the sides. I feel it gives me the strength with a thinner side for better resonance. The neck is for a flat neck.
Got to watch the video on a dust shoe so that helped. This is fun. |

Moving time
We are moving to a new location. Only about 300 ft from our current building but still takes some rigging to get it done. To get the Mechmate out of our current building it needs to go on it's side so some disassembly is required.
We removed the gantry and control box , leaving the wiring intact. Then we put casters on the side of the MM so it can go out the doorway and be wheeled down to the garage. From there we will chain it from the 4 corners and use the skidsteer with forks to move it to it's new home. |

Your machine definitely looks like it is getting plenty of use.

Lots of use is correct.
When we get into the new home we will even get dust collection hooked up. I won't be able to use it for dovetails but that's OK. It's time to get a 3d program so I can cut ukulele necks. |

You wont regret the dust collection, my life became so much easier after that (and healthier). I forgot to switch it on the other day, and I was still amazed about the mess it can make within the first 20 seconds of cutting a sheet of mdf in one pass, without any dust collection. Geez.. those 20 seconds cost me half hour to clean up ... as the roostertail of dust flew into the air and took a while to settle on everything in the shop.

Thanks for the motivation Fox.
We are excited about our move and wanting to reduce housekeeping. We are downsizing space big time as we concentrate on the MM. Semi retirement. Going from a 15000 ft building to 2500 sq ft. No employees. Yes. |

1 employee. 1 that does not moan and does not get sick, only makes noise and dust ;-)

Builder's Log Update
Pete,
Congratulations on completing your MechMate and earning Serial Number 127. Thanks for pointing out that your entry in the Builder's Log was missing. I generally check the posts every day. I missed the post where Mike awarded you Serial Number 127. And yesterday I spent all day in the Ft Lauderdale airport waiting to board the plane. Here is the Updated Builder's Log with your entry added. Please look it over and let me know any changes you'd like to make. Also, please let me know the cutting dimensions of your MechMate for the Builder's Log. |

Dimensions are 5 x 10.
Actual build time was 27 days. We started cutting steel for it on Feb 11 and cut wood with it on March 9. Granted we had most of what we needed stockpiled so we could kick ass. And that should be Pete and Tony as builders. Thanks for adding us. |

Finally dust collection.
Well it took almost a year and making a move to a new home but we finally got our dust collection hooked up.
https://youtu.be/ZQUKDbT5Ab4 We modified the collar that came with the router to attach the dust shoe. Works pretty slick. Here is a link.https://www.facebook.com/groups/cncr...6419327839837/ Last edited by Kornerking; Sat 21 January 2017 at 15:57.. |

Nice work on the dust collection, love the idea of a swivelling dust pipe. Might just have to steal that one

Loving the dust shoe.
I created a vacuum program to run between sheets to pick up the sawdust that was packed in the grooves. Runs in about 3 minutes. Faster than grabbing a small hose. |

Really nice work. Nice design on the dust collector swivel. What product is the flexible hose connecting the PVC to the Y-Car? It seems to do a good job!

The hose came from Woodmaster Tools. http://www.woodmasterdrumsanders.com...ail.cfm?PID=14
Seems to be a pretty nice product. I like the recoil feature. |

Nice job Pete, always a pleasure moving especially when it's-35 out. So you're not going to do the angled dovetails anymore?

Sanding fixture for the Mechmate
I built a sanding fixture to mount a Bosch electric random orbit sander on my Mechmate. Takes about a minute to install.
It is powered by the g8 command in mach 3 so it turns on and off by itself. So far so good. It works great for sanding the small drawer parts. I use a Milwaukee router and I just took the base to it and cut it down, mounted an outrigger to it , then made a bracket to hold the sander. Now to run a hose for the dust collection...... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0RPuJ7ObV8 https://youtu.be/Wliagef0pzA Last edited by Kornerking; Sat 30 December 2017 at 08:11.. |
