Smile mechmate help in Ireland

hi lads, first of all great site, very informative. So having said that,is there anyone in ireland who is/has undertaken this project? My back ground is as an electrician, some welding.Looking at the parts needed to construct this machine, it does seem alot of the fabrication parts needed are kinda specialist in nature i.e. the would be made by an engineering company, or may be its my lack of knowledge on this, they just seem to be proffessional made, especially the gantry assembly.
Any how enough rambling, if anyone in ireland has made this i would dearly love to see how all come together

cheers lads

hi Mick

cheers for the welcome, looking forward to this build, but it will only be done in stages as money allows, but that will probably help because i will be taking my time with it.

hi guys here is my first of many questions, i have sourced a company called Marchant Dice Ltd who supply steppers and controlers along with rack and pinion systems.
My question is,does the pinion have to be geared or can it be fitted directly on to the stepper motor? if so does it make much of a difference to fit their 20T or 30T pinion? their rack seems to be standard pitch so what difference is there between the two units? sorry for the stupid question, but i have absolutely no experience in this field.

cheers in advance

That depends on what shaft your stepper motor come with. If you don't know, buy the pinion after you get your motors.
