how many eccentrics are required?
Hi as a general practice how many eccentric bushings are required ?
Should I put one on every wheel or on just half of them to take up slack on one side ? Whats the best way to do it if I money isn't an issue. Thanks Bob |

Bob - the answer is (6) six.
all for the z axis. You can get by with (3) if needed, but not as much wiggle room on errors |

Well just for the records ... I ordered 10 BX3 bushings ... you need 4 of them in the skate for rail making ... yes you can use those 4 later in the Z axis so 6 are necessary but I thought it was better to have 4 more if for some reason I had to work again on the rail.

Hi everyone, I got a kind answer from Rick :
GW3 = $18.11 each 14pcs = $253.54 B3X = $3.98 each "I can now also a less expensive Guide Wheel option. We sell an import wheel, GW3X-SMS = $12.89 each" do you think the import weel is suitable for the machmate ? |

No answer can either mean "quality comes at a price" , or "none of us would try the cheap ones" .
I'll go with the originals GW3 then ... |

Afpa, you did not give enough information and your question could not be answered.
The statement ""I can now also a less expensive Guide Wheel option. We sell an import wheel, GW3X-SMS = $12.89 each" does not mean anything. The word "import" says nothing. You talk about GW3 bearings . . . . .these have no seals. You should buy at least GW3X (the X indicates seals) Ask Rick to explain what he means by an "import" bearing being cheaper. (As far as I know, his bearings have always been imported). I will have no problems with "imported" bearings if Rick decides they are good enough to sell under his name. A couple of us have made our own bearings and this is generally not an area with special problems. |

Import bearings from china are always cheaper than our local produce.

Send Rick the question, I am certain he will verify the source.
His office is across the street from the Timken Bearing plant, so he sources and supplies many things for the manufacturing in Akron, Ohio. My assumption is if he has a lower cost version of the Bishop bearing, then it might be of lower tolerance or lesser grade bearing/seal and/or metal quality. Just ask...he will verify. I have seen a number of the "lower" quality vee bearings recently that were labeled "material handling - no precision" which I realized after measuring that they had 030 difference in size and the grind on them very coarse. Just ask for details if your moving away from his "standard" mechmate provision package. |

Thank you all for your replies,
I asked Rick and answered very rapidly : "Both bearings are made to the same spec. You will not see a difference in fit/function. The standard product has a metal shield, the lower cost product has a rubber seal ..." I will go for the GW3 X SMS then. |

In the sawdust environment, go for the rubber seal.

need 10 x B3X to Australia please. Can anyone here supply them? have tried to contact superior bearings without luck so far, the info@ email bounces. I guess just making them on the lathe from brass would be ok? have 3d printed a few for now, need to grind rails though soon and will need real ones.

RifRaf, Today I received 14 B3X v rollers ex Wuxi Ambition Bearing Co in China. I found them on Alibaba. Total cost (including 3 day delivery to Perth by DHL) was $116.60USD. I was a bit concerned by their use of Hotmail and checked their credentials through emailing the company direct. I used PayPal to make the payment. Contact details are: saadiya2013@hotmail.com. Very good customer service.

I also purchased my V-Rollers from Wuxi Ambition Bearing Co in China. They arrived today, bought a total of 16 x (W3X) V-Rollers with Delivery to South Africa, cost + Delivery was 116.6USD
Lines on bearings are oil that the camera picks up with the light |

It seems that the superior bearing domain is up for sale, so I'm assuming that the company went under. Anyone have an alternative source, that can be purchased online?
