Build Images
Here are some images of how we made our own flat area in which to start the construction. We did this by using two support board beams with threaded rod, and getting them both level with each other, reason for this was we had no where which was flat so we had to make do with what we had

Here are the plates which we made the mechmate with instead of welding it solid as hopefully it will be off to a unit. Plates was just to make it movable.
If someone needs to do the same my plates are: Small one: 200mm x 50mm x 10mm Long Larger one: 250mm x 50mm x 10mm Long Using 12mm bolts to bolt up Work perfect!! |

Drilling Main Beams
Here is the method which we used to drill main beams. We haven't a big long workshop so our build is taking place outside and only have a bench top drill.
Very simple way but work perfect!! |

I like your drill set up!
But I have to agree with Kobus here.. My priorities would be to put a cover over things.. I don't think Birmingham has the type of weather that permits one to keep such a nice machine out doors... |

Adam, your place looks beautiful. Nothing like being able to work out doors! You machine looks like it's coming along. How much is the motor and controller before shipping if you don't mind me asking?

I'm will begin building a second one in the not too distant future. I'm exploring alternative to the expensive OM and Gecko combo without sacrificing performance. I'm looking into URI robot drivers as well. Thanks for the info.

How did you calculated how much chain you need for each axis? Thanks!

I could only buy cable chain in metres, so it was simple for me, for example my y-axis is approx 2 metres, the chain is fixed in the middle and it has to travel approx 1 metre each way. You will then need to take into account what you need to add for the bend, as i can only buy it in metre lengths it was easy for me beacause it was never going to be anymore then 2 metres and 1 metre wasn't enough.
