Gerald, by my understanding so far, looking at their stock rack list, it seems I would need (2) R2020x12 and (2) R2020x6 for a 5x10 table size. Also it seems as if a 30 tooth pinion gear would be the right choice for an Oriental Motor 7.2 geared motor. Am I on the right track here? Thanks, Darren

That's the right track Darren, but you will have to check your own length calcs. (plus z axis)

Hi Robert,
I'm new to the mech mate site so I"m not sure what you would need exactly, i.e. length and tooth size. Let me know. Thanks, Ria |

Ria, general guide for when Mechmate builders give you vague requirements:
The rack is 1/2" wide. 1/2" high, DP20, pressure angle 20 degrees. The lengths are trickier..... The longer of the dimensions in the table size is generally the X size, the shorter is the Y size. So when Robert said 6'x12', his X=12' and his Y=6'. There is also a short Z of about 10" to 14" involved (folk normally use off-cuts for the Z). Then, to get to actual rack lengths, if the X, Y and Z are known: For X axis, Two (2) racks (twin set) each of length X plus 7.3". For Y axis, a single rack of Y plus 6.1" For Z axis, a single off-cut of 15.3" max If your standard lengths are 6' and 3', then Robert would just manage on 5 lengths of 6' and 1 length of 3'. (needs a double-check by Robert of course) |
