Is it blue enough?

That`s just a peek preview of how blue it is.

It`s just the 1.st coat of blue after 2 coats of primer.

Of course you can still see some uncovered spots but they will disappear
with the next layer of Signal Blue.(RAL 5005)

If it`s not blue enough just say it, it can still be changed~

Bye alltogether

Good day everybody.

Little update on my new rails cutting.
I used a Makita and some Bosch INOX cutting disks 1 mm thickness.
I used 6 disks for one x rail and one y rail.
Maybe they are not as good as the ones from Pferd, but this is what I could get.

BTW I did NOT polish them. C´mon....

Have a nice weekend alltogether

Claus….
The rail step is an easy but painful one you’re over with…Congratulation these look quite on the money !
Now…the chamfering …cut the angle very gradually, this extra time taken will pay off at the end !!
Good luck, Robert

Its taking shape...

Hello guys...

Me again posting some of my latest work.
I assembled the table and leveled it so far.
I guess this will be the final place for the MM
to be used in future.

Some details:

I`m still grinding the rails, which takes much more time than expected.

Have a nice day.

Hello all,

some more details of my latest doings.
I saw in other threads colleagues having trouble with the Spider not perfectly fitting into the Y Car. I had the same case with a tollerance of 2 mm. The solution is simply adding some Spacers between the screws.
SNC00950.jpg

Here you can see some tape applied under the Z-Rack. It is not the magical VHB, but I found something similar from Tesa. It is transparent and more like a rubber than a foam. I`m testing it.
SNC00951.jpg

This is a View under the Y Car where you can see the Z-Plate in its most upward position. Please comment if it should be different.
I also have to say that I did not install any stop screws in the back until I have it mounted on the Gantry to see all neccessary distances to the tabletop.
SNC00953.jpg

This is the Max travel of the Spindle, of course it is still adjustable in its mounting.
SNC00969.jpg

The same max travel viewed from the Railside. When I have the motor mounted I will check the pinion still grips the rack.
SNC00970.jpg

Thanks for comments and suggestions.

Greetings
Claus

Some gadget for the MM

I found these real bright Flexible LED Strips in a local electronic shop.
I thought it could be a interesting solution to have a light over the working area.
The Led Strips are rated 12 V, the owner of the shop told me 3 Ah which I think is a little overpowered.
- I want to take out 12 V from the computersource which also powers BOB and the fans in the Control Box, If you think the source is not enough I still can add a little spare source just for the strips.

I bought 4 m of LED Strips which are attached with their own double sided tape to each Gantry tube.
SNC00973.jpgSNC00975.jpg

This week all MDF has to arrive, then I can also construct the board!

Greetings
Claus

Awesome! BLING a Mech Mate! I'll put it on my todo list!

Maybe a soft brush attached to the Y car to sweep these as it passes will help keep them clean.

Why not putting strobe lights on rail and the Y-car supply the trigger pulse so that everytime the Y-car passes a strobe it will flash. We can have a disco if we have different colour lights.

If we tune the G-Code to play a tune it will be even better...I once heard a Shopbot playing Happy Birthday ...and blew out the candle on a cake.

Is this thread getting de-railed or what.

Besides I managed to get my motors mounted.
Some on the Gantry and one on the Z.

Hi Bryan,
here is the file you`re looking for.
The mounting holes are now adapted for fitting on the Gauge Plate.
You see that I added some more thickness where the tapped holes are to add some strenght. So I guess to the original overall length you just add 8 mm.

Hope it is of use.

Claus,
I recon we are using the same spindle. Here is my observation, the shiny part looks like a cladding and the actual body is the black painted top & bottom end which is a tat smaller then dia80mm. I would prefer to have my brackets holding the body rather then the cladding. Hope you agree.

Hi Ken,

Do you mean I`m not allowed to use the clamp on the shiny part?
I thought by fixing it this way I can still move it up and down as it would be needed for adjustment.
Please confirm if I have understood right.

Thanks
Claus

Interesting question. On my spindle, the top and bottom black parts seem to be plastic caps over the ends of a shiny solid metal body, and my clamps are on the shiny part.

I prefer to clamp on something that is solid.
Let me write to the supplier & see what they say about this.
