Why do people join forums to spam?

Because they can make a little money...

Some forums will even hire people to make posts and create the appearance that the forum is very active:

You know it does suck that people do this, but I think as we move into the future these types of "professionals" will become the norm.

As TV ad dollars fall off, these companies are looking for ways to redistribute the funds. So someone can make a good career out of doing this until they figure out how to get BOTS to respond and act like real forum participants.
