Thanks for the part number. Besides having been a Software Engineer in my career life, I was a Buyer for Walt Disney World in the early 70s. Old habits never die so I check out prices.

You are right the price directly from Standard Steel Specialty are cheaper.

Welcome Art. I think almost all MMers in the US and many from other countries use your rack. It's a good idea for you to carry pinions, I would have ordered mine from you, it was a little confusing having to get the pinions from another company.
Tim was very easy to work with, very knowledgeable, I know he will be on top of this too.

Art,
Are you going to start accepting paypal or credit cards anytime soon for ease of ordering? Just wondering. When do you think you will have the pinions available as I was just about to look into an order for my machine.

thanks

And a big welcome to the forum.

Art,

I think you will find that you are our source for rack in the USA. You don't have to drum up business here. It is the place we buy. I agree that the only thing that would make it easier would be for you to accept credit cards or paypal. Even with the order and send check, you met my needs even when I had to order another piece.

Which pinions are most commonly needed

Standard Steel Specialty Company

We Would Consider Stocking The Pinions Equal To Boston Gear's Item #46133 20 Dp 20 Deg Pressure Angle, 20 Tooth Pinion. Our Price Would Be Approx $22.00 Each.

I'm Looking For Feed Back! Is This The Pinions You Use?

Art, the most popular pinion size would be 30Tooth DP20, PA20, 0.5"Face width, bored/reamed 0.5" two grubscrews 90 degree opposed. Would be a bonus if it can be offered as hardened.

Next popular would be the 20Tooth.

For what it's worth ....

I'm finding that two grub screws (with loctite) in one hole is working fine.

Art,

Just a thought, but depending on the orders you tend to get, you might put together a 'MultiMate' SKU that contains the most ordered rack and pinions, and possibly other items, or at least a page that might list suggested SKU numbers for rapid ordering.

Having you on the forums is great in any case!

Selling Pinions

On a previous posting, it was stated that Standard Steel Specialty may begin offering pinions for sale that could be used with the 20 DP racks we currently sell. As it turns out, we have decided against selling the pinions. Of course we will continue to sell the racks.

Payment explanation

Payment can only be made by sending either a check or money order. We do not accept credit cards or paypal. This is because all other gear rack business is with OEM's or distributors and they all have accounts established. This segment (MechMate) of our business, in terms of percentage, is non existent and consequently makes no sense for us to take on the added expenses associated with the use of credit.

Tim,
Paypal is easy...and Im sure all the guys around here out of US will be glad to pay the extra expenses for using paypal, they charge a small comision that we can cover for you, no extra expenses involved for you , either way the we have to pay for the transfer or money order. Paypal registration takes just a few minutes and its free . .Although, Im sure everybody around here will follow your preferences to get your products...Ill do!
Kindest Regards,
Hector

Pinion Quality

Is their any immediate and compelling reason for me to buy the more expensive euro made $ 38.00 AUD pinions compared to the Chinese $ 8.00 AUD version?

I am not into solving problems that i don't have, but was curious as to what i would be missing out on not selecting the more expensive pinion.

Any advice would be great!

You will most likely need to clip off 2~3" of each ends of the AU8 rack which are not really well made.

Anyone order racks from standard steel recently? I was quoted

P/N 200011 3 PCS. @ $38.00 EA.
S/H $50.00
TOTAL $164.00

I guess prices have gone up quite a bit in last four years.

steel prices have tripled since I built my first machine in 2007...that sounds about right for today's inflation.
