The porter 7518 is why I went with a water cooled unit, they are uber loud.

Some of the square bodied air cooled spindles are louder than a 7518. Maybe not louder, but a different frequency.
A friend has a Teknomotor and it's almost painful at 24,000 rpm.+

The cooling fan in my Huanyang VFD is louder than my spindle fan at 10,000 rpm.

They are “work horses” I’ve had 6 of them that I use for solid surface tops for over 16 years and only replace bearings brushes and switches once in a blue moon

I know to well what you mean tom....I've too been working with them ( have 3) for over 18 I do this for a living !!
But now, I'm even considering changing the ones in my router tables for some 2.2 or 3kw an-cooled spindle/inverter kits vs my beloved, trusted, faithful.... 7518.....that even with top bearing replacement....still vibrate too much to my....say new std

Ya, work horses....but, darn noisy and vibra...tors !!
Cheers

The 2.2 works fine for me, it is a true 3 hp unlike the porters rate at 3.25(more like 2 hp)

Tom.....do the math !!
2.2kw = 2.95hp

BTW.....measure your PC 7518 amp under full load.....and then, you'll too discover it ain't a rue 3.25hp....

Sorry, a true 2.95 hp, (well its a heck of a lot closer to the specified hp then the porter cable at 2.4 hp) and I don't have to deal with the changing electronic speed control lag when under load.

Spindle in router table ??

Done deal....I've committed to a new 4KW watercooed & inverter spindle kit directly from china !
Should have it in a few weeks ( not in a rush !)
Looking forward for it !!

On another note, but kinda same matter....
Is there any of you guys have ever set up...or knows one who has....set up a router table with one of those Chinese spindle / inverter combo ?!
I'm wondering if I'm in reason to think it's worth a try with a 3kw or even a 4kw on my router table.....

I'm truly aging.....as I realize I'm fed up though the yrs of tolerating this.....unreasonable sound out of those beasty routers (porter7518 ) !

Thanks, cheers

I've seen one, but I don't remember where. You'd need some type of lift, as they don't have adjustable bases like handheld routers.

Gerry, I'm figuring simply retrofit it to my existing router lift system !
I can't see why not?? even through some sellers I've ask either !!
( although, that's expected, they want to sell....but remains...not all are careless )

Still seeking, I'm still...say, hesitant ?!

Good Morning Robert,

Please refer to the Builder's Log. In the comments field, you will see many MechMates with Spindles installed. I may have missed some, but I try to list "Spindle" in the comments if I see one in the photos or it's mentioned by the builder in his/her build thread.

Been a while since we exchange ;0))!
How's your beast ?!

Thanks for your time on my new quest, but, in all respect, I don't see relevance to my latest questions ?!
Why looking at many MechMates with Spindles installed ?!

Later bud,

Hey John !!
I'd say, maybe more I did misunderstood on what your referring and my question maybe was missing precision as it's may not been quite pertinent to here !!!?

Your reply made me thinking, you where kindly referring me to the builders log, and in the log, well, we're a CNC group, not a route table group, although, lot's of us using spindle and a router table in their woodworking shop too, why my question was / is ; as anyone have ever inverted a Chinese watercooled spindle
in a router table ?!?

See....we both somehow....guilty of trying to be ...say, friendly....
Be good bud !!

Robert,

I think he meant for you to read the list to see who has a water cooled spindle installed.

Je pense qu'il voulait dire pour vous de lire la liste pour voir qui a une broche refroidi à l'eau installé (I can't speak French, just used Google translate on the statement above.)

PS.....remains, as anyone seen or know one who as "dare" trying to invert a Chinese spindle in a router table ?!

See...y'all ...( y'all from a french Canadian... ).....

I think any design today should be on the Y axis, self contained, no buckets on the floor, closed system using a CPU cooling radiator.

Cost should be less than $1K US at this point

BUT....worried since I've no ideal if this VFD rated at 50HZ with a +/- 5HZ....Can this work here, North A with our syst. at +/- 60HZ ?!?

20180212_192743-rs.jpg

Can one steer me were I may find CONFIRMATION if this is acceptable....or not !?!

Thanks guys

I think it will work.
Strange that the model number is not listed in the manual that I have.
my 2.2Kw says 50Hz/60Hz on the label.

Gerry, may not be that strange not seeing it, I'm assuming your model is different as it is
A - for a 2.2KW ( 3 max)
B - for 110/120V input !

This model is a different "gamer" as it is for 3phase 220V
I too....think it should work, but....I think is just....not good enough to me / for me
Cheers

Robert you must have a VFD to make the 3 phase spindle run. The VFD converts single to three phase and controls the speed of the spindle.

Good morning Mike...
With all respect and no attack but....allow me !!, what's the "relevance" to your recommendation/comment VS my questions ?!
Look at my photo, got the VFD
Bear in mind, for you info, I will wire this to my 3phase circuit !!
Cheers

Mine is a 240V input.
I have two manuals, and both list all of the models in the HY range.
Yours is not listed. I'm guessing that yours is a chinese market version?

Robert all these VFDs are 3 phase 230V input , since this is only usable in Japan we all connect it single phase 230 , so at L1 you wire your LIVE and at L3 you wire NEUTRAL and thats it

in reality you are using just one part of a 3 phase bridge rectifier and everything else is just the same as far as the VFD is concerned.
