...started another MM, because I don't have one at home!
Hi gang.
After the loss of #5 to my previous employer, I have decided to build my very own, personal MM. Hopefully, since this will be my 4th MM build, I won't make as many mistakes as previous tries. Not a quick build, but kitchen table project started as of today. I'll keep you posted on what version I will attempt this time ...now where did I put that build manual from 2005? Sean |

MM fabrication is like an addiction. I have to build the machine....I have to build the machine...I have to build the machine.

Pretty soon it'll be one of those really satisfying rote jobs like spiking the deck just before the load in, or legging a platform, or getting a spot on bounce focus. "What did you do this morning, Sean?" "Oh, I built another MechMate."

Sean,
Have you decided on the cutting size or any of the other build particulars yet? |

Brad....your funny.
Well, it would have it that I have a number of clients asking for prototype parts and machine designs. It's really hard for me NOT to have an accurate way of doing that. I mean, it's so much easier to push "start" than actually going out to the bridgeport with a vernier and doing the hard way! |

This build will, of course, be different than the previous.
G540 (plus the NC POD or PMDX 122 spare) I bought years ago for additional I/O 39V - 500 W power supply 5volt tap 12volt tap OM 296****7.2 motors 1.5mH, unipolar (5volt - for crosshair and laser pointer) (12volt - for prox set up) 5' x 8 or 5' x 10' bed.....5'x8' cutting area, 2' area for "special stuff" 2x2 & 2x4 rectangular tube frame standard mm rails 24" z slide This is what's in my head....of course, subject to change. Maybe you should make this one small enough to fit in the back of your truck. That way when it time to skedaddle you can grab it and go!!
Hmmmm.....maybe two bolt together 4'x5' frames with full length rails bolted to the top.... |

Matthew,
Now that's a pretty good idea. Good thing I haven't started building the table yet. So, does that mean your going to fly down and help me wire and commission the machine again!? |

Mobile Table
Start the build using a trailer as the sub-base. Then if you have to move, put some wheels on it, back up the truck, and away you go.
