Sorry, I didn't communicate clearly. .. Your intent is what I was 'assuming', but that isn't what I communicated ... my issue.
Keep going ... yep, I like following what you are doing. ... Take care |

Jack, one of the guys on the JoesCNC forum made a laser shoe that seems to work quite well:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EMENb5xdRM I might just build on one day. Robert, Love the dust shoe, looks awesome! Good luck with the laser, watching intently for your progress. |

Strange coincidence you ask Pete !
As today was finally the day I made the laser olding rig in order to simply swap from router to laser ( the laser sit on top of a disc that is inserted in one of the router holder ) ! 20160710_194411rs.jpg Made some 1st baby steps simply to see the operations of it. Red arrows = Laser Blue arrows = X-Acto knife cuts ! 20160710_194444.jpg Now the...fun part !.....Learning curve Will keep in touch as more photos will follow ! LAter |

Interesting. Thanks for sharing.
So, do you have a swappable holder for your X-Acto as well? |

Hey guys !!...
long overdue news Still alive....@_# !! This past W-E put on another new sacrifice bed, this time using Extira, less prone to swelling through humidity changes. IMG_1174RS.jpg Obviously, if my 1st layer (stiffing one) would also be Extira, it be best....but, for know, this will do....better then reg MDF Also.....another time where my reliable PC-7519 needed some new bearing. Got to be a little more careful on the force (cutting load) I'm asking this work horse IMG_1172SR.jpg The guys at the bearing specialty store I go suggested me to try these C3 class bearing, 20170121_174735rs.jpg allowing less friction under heat (load) since there less ....say tight in the bearing race way ! Will see ?!? Later yall.... |

Bonne année Bob!
How well is the lazer working .How many watt and what can you cut with it? I just got a new router like yours now I know who to ask about the bearing when the time come .My last ones were an old rockwel and porter cable but the same model and it got realy hard to get collet for them . To bad I miss you last time at lac brome .Those customers turn weird on me so I decide to drop them. Your shop must look good now with all the hard work .Next time in the city drop by we are at the same place still.looooong story. Salut |

Hey Bud....Comment Y va l'père
Laser....well, gave it some trial, but, really...nothing exiting since then, to much to do else. But funny enough, this past few day I've been looking back in to it, then ( & still ) my real trouble was getting G-code for it. NOW, after some time on this ( as none or not much before) I've got a few good solutions. So....more to come with this laser ! Shop wise, not much either on that part, not much expansion nor new renovations this past two yrs....lack $$ ... Should have PM you...but...o-well !! Hey...take good care & speak to you soon....you silly baboon midnight oil toié-too .... Last edited by Robert M; Tue 24 January 2017 at 00:15.. |

Looking to change to a new spindle set-up
Hi yall.... :0) !!
Been lurking on changing my old reliable PC7518 for a VFD-spindle setup !! Not sure yet as I'm in my few 1st hr of surch & instigation, I would much appreciate getting from some of you guys using the Huanyang spindle setup some info ! A - First, I'm not sure if I should go with water cool or not ( understanding there is a decrees in noise W- the water version)...but, having all equivalent, speed, feed, & cut depth, anyone knows where I may find a YouTube so I can hear & make my call ?! Spindle Kits 220V 2 2KW 4bearings 400hz 24000rpm Water Cooled Sp.jpg B - I'm also wondering from this bellow photo, should I consider this type of spindle if it's the same KW power as the watercooled version ( 3KW). On the other hand, this version is also available in 4KW !!....all consideration, is the extra 1KW worth on a Mechamte......?! Spindle and 3kw aircooled 220v.jpg Thanks for any of you sharing your time elapse experience with either these type. Robert |

Difference in noise is considerable , you can find watercooled ones even in 5.5kw version with ER25 , I mounted it od one MM and it really rips trough material. But its with modified Z axis because only the spindle weight 20kg.
Its capable of going trough 30mm MDF in single pass at 10m/min My personal favorite is 3kw water cooled and I mounted more than 10 of these on different machines |

Hey Robert,
I have the 2.2 kw water cooled setup and I have had absolutely no problems. It has far more power than I thought I would need. I have a small radiator with fan and small water pump directly mounted on the y car that way I wouldn't need a lot of fluids running throughout the system. Overall very happy. If you don't want to worry about coolant the air cooled works fine from what I understand. Tom |

Seriously Donilo, may I ask where you get your 3KW watercools ?! Thus far, I found 3KW kits from Huanyang ! Do you know if there some....say in between, like kits with W/cooled 4KW ?? Later.... Last edited by Robert M; Mon 22 January 2018 at 05:40.. |

These are the same you find everywhere, never had a problem with any of them or with the supplied VFD
I have not seen 4kw version but that is because I have not looked for it maybe, but consider that after 3kw the VFD input is 3 phase 380V between phases so you must have that in your shop (we have it in every house but I see that in USA its pretty rare) |

Thanks danilom,
I've just started massage comm with Huanyang to see if they offer kits on 3KW and/or 4KW ! will see, but from what I've seen, they have a 4KW ! Even if I have 380 & 600v here, I'm not sure if I sould go over 3KW.....on a mechmate !? Will see what they have to offer & price diff.....from there, I'll make a choice Thanks for your assistance. Later ! |

As you see I installed 5.5kw on a mechmate and it has been nothing but a joy , but if not needed dont go over 3kw on stock Z axis

Got another question for you danilom !?
There's only a 3kg net weight diff and +/- 100$ between a 3kw and a 4kw ! I'm hesitant but have a bigger, say "feel for" on opting for the 4kw ! A - What's your thought on this ?! B - what is the piston # you are using on your 5kw setup to counter balance the extra weight ?! ( Are you using a piston?, as the original MM set up ??) I'm curious.....& a tab lazy as I know if I such my notes on how I calculate this but....curiosity ! @_# ! BTW...what's the +/- weight of your 5kw ! Thks, later |

Gas spring was calculated at about 50kg , as the steel plate that holds the spindle was 15mm thick steel 450 x 190mm and the spindle with holder is around 20-22kg
this was a specific Z that was asked to be rack and pinion but when the spring died it had no ill effect , you just need a Z motor with a brake , on all other machines I have built with ballscrew Z ( 1610 ballscrew ) you can get away without spring and sometimes without brake My though on this is to get the largest you can mount and feel , spindles have never been cheaper, also if it has ER20 then its not much sturdier than 2.2kw or 3kw just has more power , if investing in 4kw spindle go for ER25 or ER32 if available |

Thanks Dan ( or Danilo....witch is best to respect ?!)
Much appreciate all these valuable info from your experience ! As far as I can tel, the 4KW offered come with ER20.....but, never huts asking if they can change this !! Later, R |

I think the difference in noise is negligile.
Especially as the spindle gets bigger. Cutting noise will be far greater than the cooling fan. I have some 2.2Kw round air cooled spindles, and they are far quieter than a PC 7518. My dust collector is a lot louder. |

I was working nearby two of chinese "HSD" 6kw spindles , and its not a pleasant experience, the fans were mounted on shaft, at 15k RPM its deafening . Original HSD motors with ATC are a different story, with electric fans (noisy but can live with it)

I will say this, my water cooled unit is whisper quiet (until cutting of coarse)

Well...it boils down to ....say to each it's own !
A peer near by own CNC w/ 7.5KW fanned spindle W/ACT.....and although he love it so much, I can't see my self with such noise ( spindle that is) ! BTW....I've ask for a price diff ( say a possible upgrade) for a spindle with ER25, and, they can't do it on a 4KW, they offered me a 4.5KW, 120mm body, heavier duty, but at 200$ more........pita ! I'll stick to my option of the regular watercooled 4kw I don't intend to order this soon, but, say with in the next mo !! I'll keep up info here as I progress in to this. Cheers... Yes, some shaft driven fans can be very loud. But the "fans" (more like small impellers) on my 2.2Kw round spindle are very quiet. But they don't move a lot of air.

Agree !
Although never heard one ( a 2.2kw fanned in person) I'm certain it must be negligible and very, very tolerable ! Especially, in comparison with my mammoth cry out of a Porter 7518 |
