SIP Dust Extractor would it do the job?
Hi guys,
Looking for a dust extractor noticed this one on ebay. And price is ok. Anyone got one? Or know what they perform like. Like below: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=120544196204Adam |

Maybe. Depends on how efficient your ducting and foot are. Note that 1HP is very much on the low end (below?) for a dust collector; 2HP, 3HP, 5HP would be more typical for collectors people are happy with. You want to know something about the impeller size when you're comparing; if it's not specified, it's probably not very good.
One set of perspectives is here: |

Most people would use a bigger collector, but I suppose that little one would be better than nothing.

Dust collector size !!
Easier to control a little too much “sucking power” than not enough. In my experience & opinion, this little “league” one is not cut for any wood working and should be condemn to be ! Thing health, little microns. Maybe some “bigger” chip MAY be removed, but…..no Read some of Bill Pentz texte on the “health safty” you should think of ! Amicalement, Robert |

Adam, that's a little closer, but this is an area you'll want to do a lot more research in. Many people end up modifying or reworking their dust collection systems, and you really want a well matched, powerful, motor and impeller. The rest of the system is pretty much junk that often gets discarded. Try googling on "Phil Thien Separator" and "Wynn Filter" for some ideas. Don't rush into this purchase.

The faster they spin (i.e. smaller HP)the noisier they gets... My is 3hp & I still wear ear plugs to make myself comfortable...

You will want one with a 100% duty cycle as some carvings can be 8 hrs or longer.
