Just had another thought My one arm bandit that I am building with a 1200x620 cutting area will fit in my budget of 1/2 of what that chap wants for the machine.

I agree with Gerald, Wadkin was known for making really strong traditional machines, am not aware of them ever doing anything electronically controlled. They went bust before the upswing in NC controls of woodworking machines. The "Wadkin" machines available now in some markets are produced mostly in china and only have use of the name(correction some machines are still made in the UK, but still not quite like the old cast iron ones). They went bust because their machines were too good and lasted too long, not enough people replaced them if ever - I have a 1932 spindle in my factory with original oil pot electric overloads, works everyday - you cant kill these machines. Offer him just a bit more than scrap value, the fact that its got a controller on it is academic as its bust anyway.

Very very very nice machine! Today industry sure discards some nice machines in favor to something new and a bit faster. Better for us enthusiasts!

Very very nice...so getting rid of the HEAVY spindle motor that was on there and putting watercooled spindles on, did it improve the Z-axis resolution for 3D work.

Hi Ken, can I ship it tomorrow over to you.
The guy accepted my offer. I am in the process of getting a rigging company to give me a quote for moving the thing.

It have one air cylinder connected to a chain that again is connected to the Z axis. so you just adjust the air pressure until it pulls with the right kg on the Z axis. just like the gas spring on the mechmate

And since mach3 control cabinets are so small, you can use that old control space as a shower for hot days

Not my weekend

This weekend was not the best.
I had to do to many things...can't we work on weekends and stay home during the week to play with our machines
My wife finished 2 x stained glass windows and I had to go and fit it.

IMG-20111203-00048.jpg

IMG-20111203-00049.jpg

I am also making 2 x wine tables for a friend. Solid white oak with carved grapes on the top with a glass top reccessed into the wood.

Carving took about 3 hours on this 600mm top. At the end I checked and found the glass to be a bit tight. Thought I will give it another 0.2mm freedom for the movement of the wood.
This is where it all went wrong.
I thought 0.2mm off an existing cut 6mm deep in one pass...NO PROBLEM in oak.
Somehow my program thought I wanted to cut with a 1.5mm bit....all day I was working with the 6.35mm bit.
Result is that the 1.5mm code put the 6.35mm cutter into virgin wood....by the time I got the message and hit the e-stop it was to late.

Thank's Hennie for that sleeper wood you gave me at our Woodworkers show.
I made something special for a special friend.
The bottom piece I got from another friend in exchange for some cutting work.
I think it is also teak, just about 100 years younger.

Waiting for PROMISED BAMBOO...Using Rosewood

I know I guy...Let's call him Hennie....to protect the innocent...
Promised me some Bamboo....but now he is making his Christmas presents..
So when I did not get any, I hauled out a piece of Rosewood, Re-Saw on Bandsaw 1/3 - 2/3 and made this SAMPLE knife box for a knife maker in Bloemfontein.
