Getting cutter to cut at a 90 deg angle to the table
Ok, so after 3 years I have came up with this and it actually works.I always had difficulty to get the cutter plum to the table and usually ended up with ridges on my projects.I had a disc cut about 120 mm dia with a 8 mm hole in the centre with 4 smaller holes to put screws through (didn`t use them).I then took a 1/2 inch shaft of a cutter that I don`t use anymore and attached the disc to it.I took the gadget and put it in the router and dropped it onto the table after I loosened all the bolts that holds the z-axis in place so that there is free movement ( keep in mind that I first skimmed a small section on the table and cut a round hole in the centre ) once the disc sits on the table it actually holds the z-axis plumb to the table.I then tightened the bolts holding the z-axis in place and there it is no ridges anymore.Hope it is self explaining. ( lets presume the glass is the table)

That is a pretty darn good solution Hennie.
I did something similar out of plywood (mine was a triangle) to square the relationship of the spindle to my Drill press table. I often rotated the drill press table for custom stuff and had a tough time getting back in plane. Great idea for the MM surface. Now I have a few 45, and 30 degree step blocks drilled out to set the drill press table for custom stuff that works the same way in reverse. Last edited by smreish; Sat 05 May 2012 at 12:16.. |

Usually on a drill press, I use a 123 Block and a 3/8" rail in the chuck.

I think I'll shrink my big idea back to your more respectable 120mm
Nice tool by the way. Regards Ross |

Just to give you more ideals or how to improve upon. I want to say they use to make a 1/2 shank one but I cannot find it anymore.
