Question to my computer geek friends out there.
I want to change the display size on a LED monitor. Full display must be about 25mm smaller than the border. I don't mind the Black frame around the edge, as long as the program (for instance Mach) is displayed correctly on this smaller screen. I don't want to 'Restore Down' to make the Mach screen smaller because then not all Mach pictures are displayed. I have a small 15 inch screen that I will fit in my new Wadkin CNC. If I put it on the inside of my box then the X-size is about 20mm too wide. I can make it fit on the Outside of the box, but would prefer the inside fitment. ...And I don't want to buy a smaller screen.. Thank's |

Kobus,
Go into the windows section where you can size the fonts etc and just increase the size of your window borders to something bigger than you would normally use. This would work for the windows, but you still might not see the start button entirely. This might work for you. |

Kobus
Sometimes you can resize the display using buttons on the lcd itself that lets you make changes to the pictures position. |

Thank's Heath and Graham. I tried all the available settings on the Control Panel 'Display' and the screen buttons can move it up / down and left /right, but not shrink it.
Anybody else that know of some software that might be able to do this ? Don't worry, I got it a bit smaller now.....would like something inbetween, but for now OK. Last edited by Kobus_Joubert; Fri 23 December 2011 at 11:45.. |

Nvidia has those options to make it smaller or bigger in the control panel but for a TV output

Kobus, I dont think this is a setting that is with the PC to change the screen size but actually on the screen itself.
On mine you set the computer up with the recommended screen resolution. On the screen itself you can stretch or shrink along the x and y axis to fit the frame for the screen. I just dont know if you will have enough adjustment to fit your area. 20mm is a big screen size difference to overcome. |

I know on the old CRT screens I could do it, but these new plat panel jobbies don't seem to come to the party.

Thank's Graham, but those manuals are the same as the ones I got on the CD with the monitor.
Thanks for the effort, but I am now thinking to change the position of the screen and then I will not need to make the screen display smaller. Merry Christmas to everybody, may your ideas produce a lot of chips and dust and may your customers fill your pockets in 2012. |

Kobus, I was thinking about this last night but have your tried playing around with Screen Editor? I know you can make custom screen sets for Mach3. You would just need to find out the size of the pixel area you need to cover. I remember seeing instructions on how to find this out in Paint program but cant seem to find them right now. You wouldnt be able to use full screen but the Window should pop up in the same position and size each time you open it.

I know this is not MechMate related, but if it was not for this wonderful forum where I managed to learn a lot, I would not have gone down this road to buy an old Wadkin CNC router and re-furbish it with modern technology.
The control panel is nearly done. Need some painting and then onto the machine......and I still have a truck load of wire and contactors etc left over.. DSC00876.JPG DSC00877.JPG New Panel.jpg old panel.jpg |

You might be able to use that encoder wheel from the old control panel with the proper input module for jogging!....or something. Merry Christmas to you and all my SA friends! |

Thank's Sean, but that sounds like work....ha ha. I think this little wirless keyboard will be enough to drive the beast.
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas as well.....mine was not too bad....on standby for 10 day's, but touch wood ..no callout so far. Gave me time to wire up this panel. Trying to keep as much of the old parts in one piece... maybe somebody want to buy it ??? |

That hard drive mount looks a little dodgy, with a longer set of cables you could move it away from the heat and "noise" of the power supply. It is great to see this Wadkin getting a new life more pictures please.

John I agree, the H/D need work, but on a Christmas holiday it is hard to get what you want, so to get going you improvise.
Irfan, this is the machine.... from what I could tell he slides needs a little cleaning, but the ballscrews do move ok. DSC00822.JPG |

So are you going to gut this thing and build up the MechMate controls inside?
