Why the angle iron must be 2" tall (or less) before cutting down with grinder

Drawing M1 10 110 M shows:

2" high angle will work, but 2.5" hits the grinder plate:

Yes Gerald have faced the problem yesterday and have deceided to take a new rectangular plate and machine a new fixture. Probably a design modification can be planned so the fixture can cut 2.5" rails, atleast it will be easy for our future MM builders.

Some people cut the rail twice....first a rough cut to 2" [50mm] and then the final cut to 28mm

I have thought about changing that plate's design, but it seems too complicated ?

Gerald,
Don't change it. I found that the interference problem only exists once the cutting disk has removed about 1/2" to 3/4" of material from it's diameter. It really only required about 3 extra cutting disks to complete the rail cut down procedure. If you can't get the right height rail, it's a really small price to pay. The tool works - don't change it!

Keeping it simple in Orlando.
