Welcome!
The gantry is pretty heavy for a plasma, but it can be done.
One of the options is building a quick change mount for the router, that could be swapped for a plasma head mount. I know nothing about controls for plasma cutters, but I heard that there are some controllers that do automatic height adjustments. I am sure there is a way to generate the appropriate control changes, just not my forte. |

Stretch,
It has been done. MM #58, The challenge is plasma is FIRE and router feeds the fire with wood dust and flammable drops. The students at UNCSA built a MM that does both with a dual z in the Y-car. The plasma is a hypertherm torch with THC control unit. If you are building a simple plasma (occasional use) I would highly recommend you use a contact tip method and NOT a THC controller. Search the forums for MM #58 or see the machine on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSvdGoM5hTs |
