mechmate 3d printer?
Can we convert the mechmate to be a 3d printer? I haven't looked into this yet just thought I would get some feedback first.
Thanks Justin |

Justin,
I think this could be done, as the 3d printers are nothing more than light duty cnc routers with a heated extruder end. So you should be able to make an extruder hot end for the MM. The only other problem I might foresee is if the software will work ok with the drivers we use. Dont take this as gospel, as I have not done a lot of research on these but my gut is saying it should be able to be done. |

it would work but very slow. laser cutters and 3d printers require very high speeds and acceleration to be profitable, you don't want to leave a mechmate printing for 48 hours
investigate more on http://shop.seemecnc.com/ and look for Hoss on cnc zone, he is now seriously printing after all the cnc milling machine modifications. |
