Well here is another update. I have sent the drawing of my router mount in to Siemens' to have it lasercut, and they are doing inventory or something right now and haven't got time.
So, I went ahead and mounted the router temporarily with 5" exhaust clamps. I know it is the wrong way to do it but I was impatient. It cuts and makes sawdust! I am having lots of fun practising on some scrap Melamine here. I just can't raise the Z too high or the muffler clamps will hit the bottom of the Y car. I have already milled the top off a wood screw and run the collet into a clamp. No real serious damage but bad planning on my part. Anyway, pictures will follow sometime, but right now we are just getting into seeding so am very busy. John |

Good news!
If you ever visit Siemens, tell Neville Mannoe I send my regards. He looks like Bin Ladin, but he is a staunch Catholic. |

The green leaves through the window gives me hope for my visit to the northern hemisphere Thursday
That dirty blue machine makes my day! Thank you! Your temporary router bracket reminded me of what ShopBot supplied for a 1000+ machines. I have put it in another thread. Curious about your lasered bracket design. . . . |

Oh, forgot . . . .
An air deflector mounted under your router will make a world of a difference to the anount of dust blown around the shop. Any old plastic tub from the kitchen will do. |

Thanks for the kind words Sharma. The pink plastic is a bag of fibreglass insulation that I didn't get in the walls of the shop this winter.
Gerald, I thought about sweeping off the machine but I knew you'd like it dirty. Anyway I'll post a .zip of the .dxf of that router bracket in the .dxf thread. thanks John |

Just make sure that there is about a 10mm [3/8"] gap between the plastic and the router for the air to flow.
Try and select a tub/bottle without an expiry date on it. |

Hi Heath,
It will be finished as soon as I get stickers on it. I've been cutting a few jobs here and there, but mostly just playing around on it, cutting different things. I have been trying to learn about vinyl and acrylic signs and what the different methods of construction are. Trying to find and look at as many different styles of signs as I can to give me a few ideas. Thanks for checking in on me. How is your Mechmate coming along? John |

John, would it be true to say that you no longer have concerns about getting the MechMate to a stage where it becomes a production tool? Solid, reliable, controllable, predictable? That is really the main issue for most of us - putting on decals is just a "ceremonial" thing.

Hi Gerald,
No I have to say that I no longer am worrying about whether this thing is going to work or not. It cuts great, and I am happy to say that it has been making money for me already thanks to your brilliant design. Glad to see you are back from your holiday. John |

Here is a little update. A while ago I sent away some drawings of a router bracket to my local laser cutter and here is a picture of them mounted on the machine.
Router-Bracket.jpg I had to grind down the corners where the bracket meets the Z-slide because the brackets were the same width as the slide, not leaving room for the V rollers. Other than that they worked like a charm. They are made from 1/2" mild steel. Mechmate-Finished.jpg Here is a picture of the finished (until I get my dust collector figured out) MechMate minus the stickers. I was reading in another thread (I forget where) that Sean had mentioned cutting a mask and painting the logo on. That is probably what I am going to do. Great idea. Anyway, thats it for now. John |

Well, I finally got around to putting a logo on the side of this machine I have here. I cut a mask from 1/4" plywood and painted it on. A sticker would have been sharper, but this will do. Anyway, just wondering do I get a serial No. now?
