Hennie,
Did you make the vacuum table yourself or did you buy one. I am looking at building one soon.

I think building this machine was the easy part, so much to learn on how to use it now. Awesome job!

I have done a number of vacuum tables. I did some home work on the foil machine and might attempt it. The only bit I am still stuck with is the heater.

Hybrid MM

This is not an idea to better my MM or anything else and I am not opening a can of worms for another discussion I need to get a machine working with a cutting table of 1200 x 600.I have my MM that I can source parts from to get this running and I know it can work I have a month to do it and I would need some input from anybody( please ).I have a container that it is going to stand in and that is why I need to downscale as it is going to be on site.
The concept is to have a movable x-axis table with the y-axis and z-axis stationary. As we all know the MM parts work so the question is will the concept work.I am posting this rough drawing to show the idea.

iam not and expert but you will need double of space and have to have in mind how much weight will handle the x axis motor since you will vary your materials.

I have the length in space but it is the width that I need to make a plan with. Motors can handle the weight I am using my MM ones with a 3:1 gearbox.I won`t be cutting at high speed so losing steps won`t be a issue. Will be cutting 18 mm shutter ply precut to 1200 x 600 mm in size.

Hennie, if that machine is going to be in the container permanently, you can mount a pair of x-rails to the roof (ceiling) of the container. (nothing wrong with your concept either)

great idea gerald but if the container is exposed to the sun and changes of temperature the metal will expand and contract and move the axis.
but iam imagin a huge axis moving on the ceiling like a crain... mmmmm sounds interesting .. double purpose crain and axis.. mm... double mmmm... ther is no think emoticon

Gerald I will PM you.Fernando I had times in my workshop where we had hot and humid days and the metal did get hot in such a state that one can feel the change it didn`t affect the cutting of the project.Remember the MM is verry forgiving.

Ok Gerald I should have seen it ( no PM`s).Will meet up for Coffee soon.I had a look at if I take the MM and use a board cutting width of 600 mm it would still fit in the width that I have available and ok some 2700 mm long cutting surface.Stupid idea I had but it can work. Now to order some steel for new mini, mini gantry.Alan I will touch base with you later once I have been to Stellenbosch and see what is involved.

Bucket list

While I was visiting my parents in JHB I stumbled on my first woodwork project that `n did when I was 16 years old in my final matric year.It was a clock that I never had time to complete or can I say started thinking with something else.Only need to make a frame to hold the face for the clock. Will put it on my to do list when my MM is in JHB.

JHb Project

This is my JHB project that I am busy with, only drawers to go on and then it is complete. The florals was done by a chap in the east who has a MM but don`t know how to use a broom. The fluted posts was done by a chap in Randburg who also has a MM but pays someone to use his broom. The rest was done by a chap in the Westrand who also have a MM but can`t use it and also have a broom somewhere either in Plett or up here in JHB. Thanks Kobus and Brad For the Help.

It all started with boxes

I started playing with boxes and it ended up being shelving. The boxes hang on the same slots that the shelving brackets hang on to.
