I hope you guys can help this newbie.

This is the first forum I have ever tried to enter into for discussion. So please forgive me if I am unsure or unaware of forum etiquette.

I have a serious need for a CNC machine. It will be cutting aluminum exclusively.

I am probably not as tech savvy as most of you, but do have an extensive mechanical backround. I think the physical part of the build will not be a problem; I am just not sure about the electronics and software parts of the project.

Like I said in the title I have a lot of questions that have probably already been answered on this forum and will explore this forum more thoroughly when time allows.

I am ready to purchase MM plans and start my build if the machine will be up to cutting aluminum exclusively. I also need to know where to purchase the laser cut parts as I have no local source. Is there a BOM list showing recommended distributors? Is there open source CAM software available? The list of questions goes on, but these are my most important at this point.

I, like the rest of you here want to do this as cost effectively as possible. I am willing to spend a little more money where necessary to speed up completion, but really need the help of you experienced builders.

Spend some time reading builder threads if you have not started.

You can buy the laser parts for Mike.

Many use Vectric CAM software. They have a number of products that are reasonably priced.
