Smile Maybe first Tasmanian Mechmate

Hi All
I am from Tasmania (the main island of Australia) and I have just started on my my mechmate build. Big thanks to Rick Nixon who supplied laser cut parts to get me started, they are top quality and also Gerald for his thoughtful design.I think this might be the first mechmate started in tassie but it probably wont be the first finished.

Regards Neil

Hi Guys
Thanks very much for the welcome, I have been following Tony's build with keen interest enjoying the very clear photo's but I need to start the build process myself. i think I will make my table dimensions virtually the same.

Greetings Neil

You have some very nice timber, clean air and great scenery down your way as well as one the nastiest surf breaks ever at Shipstern's Bluff.
I'm assuming you are smart enough to use the timber, enjoy the lifestyle and leave Shippies to the experts.
Trusting your build goes well and that you can claim the mantle for the highest southern latitude build.

One thing though - you seem a little confused about the who is the main island.
What actually happened was that you once were connected - then you broke off and drifted out to sea !!

Regards
Ross

Hi Neil
Still the remnants of Tassies break from the MAINLAND can be found at Shippies, It is the wild rivers that I miss... have you seen the carvings in the Huon pine on the Franklin?

Hi Pete (tangocharlie 123)
It took me a while to realise the significance of two spindles( for folks abroad it is a common joke for the people of the mainland of Australia to say Tasmanians have two heads) but thanks for the welcome.
I made a start on the Y car today after putting it together my friend John welded it up for me, as my welding skills are not all that good. Can someone tell me why both sides of the y car are countersunk, one side is for the motor,
I will post photos soon as I know how to.

Regards Neil

Hi All
As promised here are 3 blurry photographs

The first is an old homemade drill press which can be quite handy.

The box my laser cut parts came in, I have used some parts but the rest are still there,All the parts were well wrapped in bubble wrap and packed in the box with a lid attached.

Here is the Y car welded together, used some threaded rod to help set it up square and perpendicular as suggested by Ross in Tonys thread (worked well)

The date on the photos is wrong

Regards Neil

Vee Rollers received

Hi All
I received my vee rollers and eccentrics from rick@superiorbearings.com today, they took approximately 1 week which I thought was pretty quick, it takes longer to get something from the other end of the state.

Length of gantry rails

Hi All
I am working on my mechmate again after a long interuption as I have been working on a job fo 6 months. ( I didnt get paid fully as the company went broke)
Can anyone tell me what length my gantry rails should be the gantry tubes are 1720 long I have cut two pieces of angle iron down to 28mm on one leg they are 1800 long and I think they may not be long enough due to the overlap required by the grinding skate

Regards Neil
