There are three important data items that should be part of motor selection.

1. Physical size = 34

2. Holding torque = [at least] 350 oz*in (2.5 newton metres) for geared or belted motors, [at least] 600 oz*in (4.25 newton metres) for motors without reduction

3. Induction (mH). Lower is better.

The motor you selected has high inductance. It will work with an 80 VDC power supply, but a motor with 1.5 mH to 2.5mH would be my choice.

Wiring for NEMA34 640 OZ-IN 4.5A STEPPER MOTOR (KL34H280-45-4A) 640 oz In. Hy

When wiring the 4 motors that I ordered from metal head mike. Do I connect the wires for the coils at the motor? And just put a wire nuts on them. What are the methods for connecting the motors to the system. I have concerns about the vibration that will occur during operation. Help!!

NO WIRE NUTS.

Use a connector like
4 pin XLR available at

http://www.markertek.com/Connectors-...nc/NC4FX.xhtml

Or - other locking 4 pole connector rated for 10Amps @ 80VDC

Or - butt joint, solder and heat shrink the connection and home run to control box drivers.

Or better yet, Western Union joint, then solder and heat shrink!

XLR Motor Connectors for KL34H280-45-8A

I do like the idea of the XLR connectors. Does anyone have a close up shot? I see the motors have 8 wires and I will be usings the 4 pin XLR connectors. Which wire goes where? Will I need to wire this bi-polar(Series or Parallel) or uni-polar? I searched Google and found http://www.kelinginc.net/KL34H280-45-8A.pdf

This is the fun part with DIY, you get to decide which pin/wire goes where.

PS, I've never once need to disconnect the motor since mine was commissioned. IMHO, XLR connector is luxury.
