Hi Vishnu,
Glad to see that you're back. Looks like you're making progress. I see that you cut the rails to length. Don't forget that the skate cannot grind all the way to the ends of the rails. |

Hi Ton,
Thanks for the comments, Wait for a couple of weeks so i can exactly post enough feedback of the spindle. Irfan & me wanted to try a low cost asian spindle due to budget constraints, hope it will do fine. Planning to start a new thread at the earliest. I have started to grind the X rails and its almost complete and my kitchen table project is 50% done. I am in a hurry to finish i have fell back from my schedule by a month due to sickness Love to see my Mechmate rolling............ |

Hi Nik,
Thats the colour of the primer commonly available at our city, its bit dull red so thats looks like rust to you. |
#45
I think that is the classic "red lead" primer that is still the best performing, but the word "lead" makes people scared today.
#46
Also known as Red Oxide (less scary??)
#47
Not quite the same. Red lead has lead tetroxide, while today's red oxide paint has no lead content. Red oxide can be a water based paint, red lead repelled water. Or something like that . . . .

Help me in wiring these Motors
My steppers are of Model 86HS4802 8 wire motors. Please help me out which would be the best way of wiring these to my Gecko 203 drives. My toroids are rated at 1050 VA 39V @ 27A. The specs are given below.

If you rectify the transformer's 39V AC, you will get 55V DC
The motor coil inductance is 3.2mH. The Mariss formula says you can go to 57V DC for half-coil. So you have a good match for half-coil. Insulate each of the blue, black, brown and green wires. Connect: red - terminal 3 on gecko yellow - terminal 4 on gecko white - terminal 5 on gecko orange - terminal 6 on gecko Put a 120k resistor (1/4-watt minimum) across the geckos terminals 11 & 12 to limit motor current to 5 Amps |

Hi Gerald,
I am about to connect my motors i.a.w. the bi-polar sketch on the right. Yel-Blu & red-Grn. The way that you advice Vishnu look to be bi-polar as well. Why do the manufacture give us two bi-polar options here? Will your option be the better one? Wonder which way Kobus did his? |

Johan, has your motor got 8 wires or 4 wires? that decides the left or right diagram.

Motors Moving
Hi Folks,
Finally today my buddy Irfan came down to my place and we powered up my control panel and finally had the motor turning. The motors from Deitech are really good & powerful. I have completed welding the gantry & Y car last week and started working on the Z axis. Here is the video of my motors turning. http://in.youtube.com/watch?v=H6Q5uEwROm8 |

Things vishnu did not talk about -
1. I got to know the reason behind Vishnu getting Dengue fever - a swarm of mosquitoes which feel free to enter and entertain people in and around vishnu's workshop. 2. Two connectors placed metal facing each other (live and neutral) almost burnt some wires - but since it was before the contactor much damage was averted. 3. Thin wires on the parallel port cables giving us the creeps. 4. Creating a new profile not working with Mach, had to use the regular Mach Mill profile to get the motors moving - may be we are missing something here. Overall a fruitful visit - he vishnu dude thanks for the great Lunch - hope you overcome all your problems and wrok thru to get our Mecmates rocking fast. I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel RGDS Irfan |

Hi,
Its been a week since the completion of "Kitchen table Project", this week i have completed the welding the Gantry, Y Car & cable track supports. I will have the gear box plates machined by tommorow will be spending to finsh and nount the motors. The problem with the V wheels i have started to make new ones since the previous wheels had only 70 deg instead of 90 deg. Will post pics tommorow. I am rushing up this week so i have the Beast running by next week end. Vishnu |

Hi,
I have almost got off track for the last couple of months due to the orders received for machining and also had some spare time for the mechmate. So guys here is the update on the build. 1. Completed all of the base frame, Gantry. 2. partially completed 1'st cost of paint. 3. Getting ready with the gear box. 4. Z - axis to be completed by week end. Sorry guys no pics of my machine as my camera is out of order on my mobile, i will have to carry the camera tommorow to post some pics. I plan to complete and have a trial run by this week end. Irfan is grinding the rails & once i complete the gearbox i am sending him so he will get things moving. Hope we both start running the machine in a weeks time. Vishnu |
