It's a 3D rendering. There are no plywood panels.

I just came across a other nice one :

http://www.stevengarrison.com/index.html

The gear section is quite nice, might have some nice ideas for people with a lathe, but the website even states you can make the gears with a table saw and or router...

That saw is something that I have thought about as well. I just keep coming back to using a spiral bit to make the cuts...

Most of the big iron machines offer the option of a second spidle with a saw blade attached (usually fixed in one axis - the longest one). It is also possible to add an Aggerate Head to the main spindle that can take a saw blade, rotating head for a router cutter etc but is does require a very substantial Spindle with auto tool change and a 4th axis in the spindle to move the aggregate to the required orientation. The saw blade can still only do straight cuts (albeit at any angle). Both machines I used to work on had the option fitted with a fixed axis blade - never used them, could do everything I wanted with just the spindle head. The drill heads on the other hand were used constantly and that would be a useful addition .

Im sure that this can be done on a MM with a little bit of planning, nevertheless, great woodworking and more important: fun!
