need help testing motors

how can i test the motors with out a drive i have a good deal from some one who is salling them but he don't know if they are in good working order can some advice me how to know if the are good

I've tested dozens and dozens of stepper motors over the years, and I've always had to use a power supply and a stepper driver to thoroughly test a motor.

You can do some very simple tests, like reading the resistance of each coil with a meter. You can turn the motors by hand and listen for binding, but the very nature of a stepper motor means that the motor will jerk between magnet positions.

I'm afraid that you'll have to actually run the motors before you can verify that they work properly.
