Just phoned Communica in Pta and this is the link they sent me. Would this work or should I rather import the torroid and Rectifier. http://www.communica.co.za/ProductDe...P_001950335440

Leonard, your transformer must match your motors and drives - have you selected motors and drives yet?

Have you got data sheets for the motor and drive? (those numbers don't ring any bells)

85BYGH450D 007 (873 oz-in Holding Torque)
http://www.wantmotor.com/ProductsVie...&pid=75&sid=80 Step Motor Drivers - SD-2H086MB http://www.wantmotor.com/ProductsVie...&pid=75&sid=82 I hope this information helps. The reason I did not order the 1317oz-in stepper motors was because there was a topic on mechmate about rather getting a 800oz-in or 1000oz-in servo motor if one wanted to go bigger than 1000 oz-in? |

Wiring the primaries in series at 230v
If the transformer allows it, is there any reason not to wire the primary side in series and use 230v instead of the way it is shown in the drawings using a 115v hot with a neutral wire? I have the Avel Y23675-0 which shows this connection as one option.

You can wire it 115V parallel or 230V series.

Maybe this is a dumb question but I am batteling to get my head around this problem.
I have the same tansformer as shown in Geralds post 16 above. I want to connect it in parallel to give me 25v output. The wiring colours as shown on the transformer are as follows: Yellow-25, Yellow-0, Purple-25, Purple-0. If I want to connect in parallel I must connect the two 0's together and the two 25's together - BUT, how do I know which yellow is 0 and which is 25 (ditto for the purple), If I get it wrong they will be out of phase and I dont think the transformer will like that. - any suggestions? |

One of the coils is yellow/yellow, the other coil is purple/purple (check with multimeter)
If you parallel 2 coils (similar rated voltage), you will either get nothing, or the right voltage. You won't get smoke. (I have just confirmed this with Jan of Toroidal Technologies, who tells me that is not his transformer, but he wouldn't hesitate to try one way then the other) |
