Spindle sources?
Does anyone have a current US supplier of ATC spindles they recommend? I went through a few of the old posts but they are many years old at this point.
I saw this ATC spindle which looks promising, but haven't found much in the way of reviews. I'm also looking something more in the 5HP range. Something comparable to an ES915 from HSD maybe? Looking for suppliers and suggestions of anyone has them. |

PDS is a good source.
https://spindlerepair.com/ CNC Depot was formerly Blurry Customs, who didn't have the best reputation. But, I've heard that their new S30 spindle is not bad. You can get a similarly sized chinese spindle for half the price, though. https://www.automationtechnologiesin...le/kl-2200atc/ They have a 5.5Kw for about $3300. https://www.automationtechnologiesin...le/kl-5500atc/ |

Thanks Ger, always a fountain of information.
That's interesting to know about CNCDepot, I didn't know they used to be blurry customs, at this point I'll probably go with someone different. I've ordered from automation technologies before when they were Kelinginc, in fact that's where my motors came from. I'm tempted to try out their 2.2KW ATC, but I'm reserved about it being ISO20, I was hoping for a little bit bigger, say ISO30. I like their 5500watt option, but I'm wondering if I'm going to need that much power right off the bat. At this point I'm probably going to go with another chinese spindle to save a few dollars, and hope for the best, just gotta find one first. I'll update my build thread with details when it comes in. Thanks! |

Hi John.
I have been thinking about a spindle for a while. Any recommendation for a make of supplier of Chinese spindles? I would like something better but short of cash as usual |

hey lonestaral,
I'm looking at this spindle, it looks like a knockoff HSD, and it is air cooled. They quoted me $2K for the the 4.5kw option, with $240 shipping to California. I think the other 2 options were $5.8K and $6K. I'll probably source the VFD from automationtechonoligies, they have a decent looking one for around $300. ISO30 tool holders go for under $25 on ebay. Hope that helps if you are looking at something on a budget! |

So the spindle came in the other day, its quite a monster. I haven't had a chance to put it on yet, It'll probably have to wait a few weeks as I'm making a few other upgrades to the machine and the shop. but here it is.

Looks like you need an 800Hz VFD, which are more expensive than the standard 400Hz models.
Let us know how it works. That's a good deal at $2K. |

Ya the VFD hz was an oversight on my part. I already got the one from automation technologies. Gotta see if I can return it and source a different one.
