Hello from the Caribbean...

Hi, I am new to this forum and CNC and I am looking for advice.

Although I have wanted a CNC router for a number of years and could now afford a commercially built unit, I think it would be rather interesting building one by the MechMate method.

I am quite handy but have limited metal working experience. Seeing all the custom parts needed I wonder if a small CNC mill/drill/lathe combo isn't the first thing I should buy.

If that sounds like a good idea to the people who have actually built one or are in the process of building one, does anyone know if such a combo unit can be had for around US$ 2500? Preferably FOB Miami and preferable without US sales tax as the machine will go to consolidator for export.

Any suggestion would be welcome.

Thanks
Norbert
