Are people attaching the tape to a painted rail (bottom) or to bare metal. About to paint and was wondering if I should leave the bottom of the rail clean.

Paulo, I think both points (move grinder further back on the mounting block and use gentle passes) are both valid. Initially (see first photo above) I was doing it gently and it was very straight....

In total I ordered 4 x 2 metre Module 1 rack and 4 x 20 tooth pinions with custom bore (14mm) to suite the Motion King...

That's some fat steel you're using there. Did you also use 1/4" in the Y beams
and the (2"x2"s ??) around the legs?
