Another mistake spotted above......you have step and direction mixed up. That is why you get the high-frequency hum in one "direction"

What instruction are you giving to make the motor...
What instruction are you giving to make the motor move? Are you pushing a cursor (arrow) key....left/right arrows for the x-axis?
