Hi Kobus

Right out of the blocks another nice woodworking piece so nice to hear from you again. Love your work.
The trip pics looked very interesting especially the shot with the mountains in the background.
Looks like you could use some rain though !!

Hi there all my MechMate friends, just to shout every now and then to say I am still alive and well.

My MechMate (# 6) is still going strong and since the first day never ever given me any problems.

I only wish we could have a 5 day weekend and work the rest....so much to do and so little time. :D

Well I had another one of those 1.8 meter x 900 mm tree trunk slices and some friend of a friend asked for a table in the same color, but with better looking legs, not as rough as the first one.
So I scratched in the pile of off-cuts and found something I could use.
Mortises were cut with old Big Blue and the table flattened with the machine.
This piece also had more cracks and in total 5 butterfly's were cut into it to keep it from falling apart.
Now to do 4 smaller tables to put next to chairs.

Again I had to import a 3kW spindle for a friend.
Again used Ebay
Again good price and FREE SHIPPING to South Africa and worldwide.

Previously had the same problem from Ebay seller.... SORRY SIR, South Africa is not part of the WORLD and please pay extra for shipping.

Again I made screenshots from Ebay to keep in my records.
Again seller say ... you not pay, we refund money PLUS $5.00 extra.

Again I say... keep your $5.00... you not speak proper English, you make mistake you PAY. I WANT spindle.

Reported matter to ebay.

Today message from seller:

Hi Kobus,

Is that 3KW a liquid or air cooled spindle ?

swatkins Thu 31 January 2013 13:14

Good Looking table !

How much does a slab like that cost you? I was looking at a compairable slab, here in Houston, and they wanted 900.00 .

Lex Thu 31 January 2013 22:54

Hi Kobus,
What did you pay for the spindle?

Kobus_Joubert Fri 01 February 2013 06:33

It's a 3kW Air cooled. Had good service from mine so far.

Thank's, pity it is my last slab like that. Cost ? priceless. I helped a chap in Sabie and we cut them. I think I paid him R400.00 each

Lex, I paid $ 613.00 incl the inverter... FREE SHIPPING :D

Nearly 8 years of PURE BLISS. And it never stopped working.
Still putting a smile on my face every time I make dust.

normand blais Tue 15 March 2016 17:53

Hello Kobus . I has wondering weather you're talking about your bike or your MM?
Anyway you looking good on that bike .

I had a friend visiting earlier tonight. He want to build a cnc for himself. Had a nice long chat. This made me go through this writeup....what a journey it was. BBBB is still with me. We moved house and it was taken apart more than a year ago. Still to find the perfect new spot for this AMAZING machine that never broke down since 2008.
Time to fire the big blue beast up again I think.

xraydude Tue 25 June 2019 12:51

Kobus, you were one of the builds I followed closely back in the day. I even spent some time trying to teach myself Afrikaans because of you, Gerald and a few others! :D Glad you are still around and kicking!

Ted

Kobus_Joubert Wed 26 June 2019 00:17

Hi Ted, yes still kicking although the kick at my age is not so violent anymore. :D
