I Challenge You!

We all know the cost of good software. http://kck.st/dKDRA3 Please take the time to watch it. As a forum all Mechmate users will profit from this program. Why don't we all band together dontae $20 and we get an advanced copy. OR I Challenge this forum to match or beat my pledge of $200! Were all going to use it, so quite being cheap bastards and spend a $20! ;)
If you don't want to help out please send the $20 the the Red Cross Japan fund!

Thanks,
Tim

Upgraded my mach3 screen set

http://home.comcast.net/~cncwoodworker/2010.html

I watched the videos, payed the guy, and It works awesome! As close to an automatic tool changer as you can get with a router :) I'm still climbing the learning curve with it but no issues at so far.

First building system

3 Attachment(s)
Well it took awhile but I designed and built my first building system. I stole all sorts of ideas and designed this in Vectric. This is the basic set also have 90s and rafter parts. I still have clearance issues, loose, in the joints. Have to read up on that. I'll post more if theres interest.

I'm still climbing the learning curve!

hennie Sun 01 May 2011 23:42

Tim do your puzzle joints halfway through ( male /female) you won`t have a issue with the joint sliding lose.

MetalHead Mon 02 May 2011 16:14

Very Interested. Keep it coming.

Playing with foam

6 Attachment(s)
Had some extra foam laying about. Lions head and the Ram are painted in a stone texture paint then sealed. We'll see how long it lasts outside on the garden box. The garden cover was made with the last building system. The new system is more a diamond overlap affair, pictures will be posted of that as well.
I really behind on my emails guys, sorry about that, I'll catch up in the next few days.

2.2kW is ok but 3kw is just right :)

also for the future reference, advice everyone will give you is:

buy the spindle only and find a quality VFD local. sometimes its in same price range
and the chinese vfg you get with spindle is of questionable quality.

New Spindle

1 Attachment(s)
New toys arrived yesterday. It hasn't given me any problems yet but I still haven't hook it into mach3 yet. The cooling fan and rad adds 15 degrees of cooling. I'll mount everything on the head close to the spindle. Pictures will follow.
Cheers

Well thats it! We rented a house at Lighthouse point Florida for a week! This Canuk could use some downtime and sun by the pool! If anyone's nearby with a machine let me know we could chat by the pool in the back. :) We will be there for the first week of February

Good Day All! Its been a long time since I've posted so its time. I can honestly say that building my machine was the easy part, how to use it, well thats a whole new ball game :) I,m working on 3d file manipulations now and molding. Trying to colorize my work as well. Cabinets are going well, all finger jointed together. Still doing allot of online schooling for this thing, but still having fun!

Best Regards
Tim

Almost forgot! My water cooled spindle is in and running fine. What a difference. Almost zero vibration in the machine and no more screaming router.
cheers!

Cool stuff!

On the dark doors, do you stain the face before carving the relief or after?

Interesting looking "TinTin" rocket hiding in the background :)

HomeMadeCnc Sat 15 September 2012 09:01

Rocket works

2 Attachment(s)
Thanks Allen, The doors were colored before carving. The design for the rocket came from Fabrun. I'll post the newest round of carvings when there done. These will be my own design, starwars, trek stuff etc. . .

Thanks for the interest

Cheers!

Help Needed!

4 Attachment(s)
Well, things were going well. I was up to cutting 4 doors a day without incident. A friend of mine asked for some plaques for her project. Usually that's a quick no brainer. Here are the results. . . ..

Im at a loss to explain how this happened. I looked at my setup all my step #'s were correct. The txt files were saved as a arcs in the mach screen.

Anyone seen this before? Any clues on where my issues are? (besides the obvious mental ones!)

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks
Tim
Im running out of hair to pull out!

danilom Fri 28 September 2012 10:19

It looks like error on all axis's XYZ and they are loosing steps. Usually it indicates a computer problem, check CPU usage in task manager, it should not be 100% more like 50% or below.
Sometimes if you have an IDE hard drive, they can go to PIO mode instead of DMA, check in control panel - system - Device Manager in IDE ATA controlers properties (advanced settings tab) are all devices in DMA mode, if not... uninstal that channel and reboot.

HomeMadeCnc Fri 28 September 2012 11:07

Thanks for the Help Danilo, I'm using Ultra DMA Mode 5
Just weirds me out that overnight things changed.

any more thoughts. . . .

Are you sure you do not have a loose pinion gear somewhere? Or maybe 2?

HomeMadeCnc Fri 28 September 2012 12:28

That was last nights work, all were tight.
