I have done some numbers on four PK296A2A-SG7.2 motors and gecko 203v 32 x sqrt 1.5 = 39 volts + 20% =46Volt DC Running half Coil 3A x 4 Motors = 12Amps X .67 = 8.04Amps Volt x Amps / watts 46V x 8A = 368VA So with that in mind is my maths sounds? and i then stumbled across this? would it be suitable? its a switching power supply....not 100% duty rated.

Have you already purchased the motors? If not, you may want to consider using a PK296 motor with Metalhead's belt drive assembly.
You'll get much more torque and about 2X the speed. The belt drive multiplies the motor's torque by the gear ratio. Depending on the motor and the way that you wire it, you'll get about 300 oz*in or 450 oz*in of torque. That will give you 1,200 or 1,800 oz*in of torque with a 4:1 belt drive. With a 1.25" pinion and a 4:1 belt drive, each step will be 0.000491 inches. At 35,000 steps per second, that axis could jog at 17 inches per second. The PK296A2A-SG7.2 motor is limited to about 700 oz*in of torque because of the gears used. With a 1.25" pinion, it moves an axis 0.000273" per step. At 35,000 steps per second, that axis could jog at 9.5 inches per second. Using either motor, the ramp (acceleration) setting must be long enough that the motor can move the weight (mass) from standstill to top speed. My personal preference would be a PK296-F4.5 motor wired parallel. For heavier loads, the PK299-F4.5 wired parallel is even better. The smaller motor is about $140 and the larger motor is about $210. |
