Cutting mirror frames - Coimbatore,India

Hi Gerald,

Thanks for every resource shared on this site. I was looking to build a machine for the last six months but could not start due to lack of funds, just started to use my reserves as i am confident of the results achived on the MM. My buddy Irfan is the technical advisor on this project as he has a year of experiance on building his first project.

The Parameters:

1. The size of the table (10' x 5')
2. Laser cut parts with bending have ordered and delivery is expected by Monday the total cost is around Rs 8500/- (Approx US $200.00)
3. Preparing BOM for Y & Z axis and planning to procure parts.
4. Looking to machine the Wheels next week.

Thats all for now, will keep u all posted.

Welcome Vishnu!

Looking forward to getting some more machines running in Asia. (There is only one continent slower than you, and that is Australia/NZ - they play too much sport ;))

Welcome Vishnu,
Keep the updates on your progress coming! :)

Hi Vishnu,

Great to know that you have started your build, I am always there - though have not yet built a Mechmate , I have acquired enough knowledge to share with you on the controller build. Since you are doing the mechanical first then I can follow ur foot step there. Expect me in C ' soon.

Also lets start on acquiring parts for the controllers. As you have already told that you would be buying the gecko's and motors later, lets get the other stuff ready.

I have a few surlplus power capacitors which I can give to you. all a 10000uF 100V. and a few are 5000uF 150V,

Hope to build the controller together with you since I have most of the controller components with me.

Let's plan to build both the controllers in Bangalore so that if we are short of any electrical stuff , we can get em easily here.

May be a week end is sufficient to get the controllers rolling with all this info on the forum!

Good luck to U

Hi Folks,

Just got my Laser cut parts late evening, have to bend the Y & Z carriage plates as the bender was not having the correct tools to bend them. Planning to get the V groove wheels cnc machined so i can first finish the Y axis. Will post pics of the parts later.

New MM set looks good, Vishnu. Goodluck with your built.
Be careful with bends on spider plate.

What are the alternative Square or rectangular pipe sizes which can be used for the table support instead of round pipes as per original design, because i can obtain cut lengths at cheaper prices.

Vishnu

Gerald D Sat 27 September 2008 02:47

50 x 50 x 3 Sq.tube
60 x 40 x 3 Rect.tube
70 x 30 x 3 Rect.tube
75 x 25 x 3 Rect.tube

. . . . .or thicker

Are the banana leaves part of the Mechmate project or "plates" for the lunch table?

javeria Fri 10 October 2008 22:36

Hi marc, those are part of the recent dassera festivities.

Gerald D Fri 10 October 2008 23:50

"Dassera is one of the famous festivals of India. This is a 9-day festival. All nine days the various roopas(incarnations) of Goddes Durga are worshipped by Hindus. On the 10 th day, the actual festival is celebrated. This day is called dassera or Vijaya dasami. Indians have been celebrating this festival for many centuries. This festival belongs to the goddess Kali or Durga Maa. According to Hindu mythodlogy, the demon Mahishasura was killed by Goddess Durga on this day. So people celebrate this festival as they relieved from the hell created by demon Mahishasura. On this they people worship Kaali Maa and perform devotional poojas. This is a day of ‘Ayudha pooja(worshipping tools). People performs some pooja to the tools they use . for example cobbler cleans his tools and perform some pooja, similarly barbers, drivers, mechanics, carpenter, officers, etc perform pooja to the instruments they use for their livelihood. On this day , each and every house packed with near and dear. This festival is greatly celebrated in kolkatta, a famous city in India. Various kinds of delicious dishes are made, new dresses are worn on this day. There is a holiday. This festival is celebrated and enjoyed by every Hindu who is in India or abroad."

That's a wonderful tradition!

Slowed down a bit this week due to lot of other unfinished jobs which had to be completed. I had a spare time of 3 hours so i could prime the channels. what would be the best size of the L angles my channels are 8" for the X and what is the best spacing of the angles outside the channels so there could be some space between the rack and the channel.

Vishnu

Gerald D Fri 17 October 2008 12:59

Just follow the drawings . . . . they are supposed to give the best sizes and spacings. ;)
