My best suggestion is to read, read, then when you get tired, read the forums more. Oh, did I say there is a lot of stuff on all aspects of CNC here, so keep reading :D

This board stays pretty well focused on MechMate in its various forms. Most of the MM machines are designed for cutting plywood or MDF, but that is not a limit, just what they tend to be. There are various table designs here, but all with the basic MM design.

The MM design is well documented in the plans (available for $100 ) with allowances for expanding or contracting the design in the X & Y directions already in the plans. Allowing for a larger Z takes a little bit more understanding of the design, but not much as extended Z machines have been built and are documented here as well.

My suggestion is still, read, read, and read some more. Questions are encouraged, but please to keep them on topic for MM builds.

Enjoy...

Hey mate, I'm in Spain too soon. Have you built anything good lately?

If you're new to the concept, search the forum and start reading the topics related to you. I'm also new here but I've found that this forum is a goldmine of knowledge.
