Finished and first job done! - Deurne, Antwerp, Belgium
Most of the electric, electronic parts are ordered.
Gecko's, PMDX-122, transformer have all arrived. Will pick the rest of the electric parts and the oriental motors up on monday. Price quotations for laser parts and steel are out the door. List of all the nuts and bolts is made and I will order those on monday. I wanted to use a spindle but that will have to wait so I bought a Makita 3612C router. I hope it is not to noisy. :D Wheels and bushings from Superior Bearing are in the mail. I hope to get my hands dirty in about two weeks time....:) |
Good Luck Bart! Sounds like your homework is paying off now. :)
|
I think I did to little homework, thought I made sence of the drawings, must say I learned more about drawings than i ever thought i would. But once you start putting things together everything falls into place. And the people on this forum rules, cause there is always someone willing to help out.

Hi, Heat and Dave,
Yes I tried to prepare in advance. I made a 3D model (Inventor) of the Mechmate just to understand all the parts better. This will also give me a detailed parts list. Put more time in the preparation and hope to win some time in the actual building. We'll see... I got prices for steel and lasercut/bending today. Lasercut + bending : 1100 € (1600 USD) Steel : 625 € (910 USD) (supplier 1) Steel : 1140 € (1660 USD) (supplier 2) I have been looking arround on the forum and these prices seem very high to me. Can anyone comment on the pricelevel you have paid for your parts? |
Took me a while to realise that this is a different Bart from Antwerp - welkom! :)
(other Bart) |
Yes,
Two Bart's both from Belgium and both from Antwerp. Must be something in the water (or beer) here. :) |

I think the price level is far exagerated !!! I paid under 200 Euro for steel lasercut and bent. For the rest of the steel i cannot say weather its cheap or not because I have mine modified and prepared, so I will pay about 1300 Euro for that inclusive all prep work.( Rails, drillings weldings etc.) Have fun with your build and good luck. Hey Bart,
Welkom Before I decided to build the MM I did also various contests about the lasercutting parts and the steel. The prices from the local lasercutting companies in Antwerpen varied between 600 and 1200 euros without VAT. I can recommend you to order a set by Kim in Denmark. The laserset + shippingcosts are still cheaper than a set here in Belgium . For the steel , I received a price at that time of around 500 euros for the UPN 180 and the UPN 80 and the other profiels at " Galler " in Hemiksem . Other companies for a good price are : “ Het ijzer “ en “ Lommaert “ . You should know that each length is 6 meters. Veel succes Groeten Bart :) |
Bart and Bart,
I believe Kim is no longer supplying kits for the MM. See Laser cut kits for Europe - out of Denmark (no longer offered) |
That's bad news about Kim :(
But ,my best price at the time was 514 euro without VAT at " Lasertek NV" . When you want to order I can still gif you the " offerte nummer " , if you want . |
Bart,
I would be interested in a copy of your offer from Lasertek if that is possible. The price I got is also from Lasertek. So I am surprised at the price difference. If you do not have the offer anymore than the offertenummer will also help. Thanks in advance. Groeten, Bart (dit wordt verwarrend :) ) |
He Bart ,
The offerte nummer is : 2008/1916 made by Karel Huysmans . |

Although I am from a country that is a bit lower in hourly rates it's hard to compare. Still, the price difference between the two companies justify to ask a third company, asking is free, right? Shopping around for 2 hours can save you some good $$$. Ries |
Ries,
The prices in the USA are less than half of your lowest price. Have you considered ordering from a some one in the USA. The shipping I don't think would cost that much and I suspect you don't have a problem with receiving goods from the States. Though it might take some time to arrive and air would bump the price back up. Just a thought. |
Bart ,
I received 1 pm yesterday , with your email address. That's what you meant ? Bart |
sailfl,
I think you replied to the wrong person :) Ordering from the US to europe should be good to go I think, towards Ecuador it's a pain in the rear to get something imported. Ries |
Sorry if I screwed up.!

Cost me 55€ and performed very well.Fits well in the scate Attachment 7346 Preventing the cut from closing up on the grinder at the end of the cutting Attachment 7347 Needed this after the first rail. The process is however not difficult and the scate works very well. Guess i was a bit nervous Attachment 7348 My brand new welder :D It's a 160 Amp AC stick welder, maximum electrode size is 4 mm. Attachment 7349 Learning how to weld. Well, after everything was "welded" I still cannot weld :( Attachment 7350 Base of the table taking shape Attachment 7351 Base finished, rails grinded, Y-wagon and the "monocoque" welded. |
Hello Bart,
nice pictures and of course good progress with your work. Curious to see more of your MM. Have fun Claus |
Very good progress Bart!
|
... you make me feels sluggish....
Great progress! Keep those pix coming! |
Thanks everybody,
I had a good week working on the MM. Next is preparing the steel for painting and then the painting itself. I wrote a reply in the "paint section" about how i will paint my MM. Here is the link : http://www.mechmate.com/forums/showt...0&postcount=79 Greetings, Bart |
Bonjour Bart,
Happy to see your back with this nice progress. Will wish you a good time finishing your build, keep those photos in as we will like to see more of it ! Amicalement, Robret ;) |
Hey Bart,
Nice work. May I know where you have ordered the laserparts and did you got a good price? Transporting the steel was also a problem for me. Those 2 pieces of UPN 180 , did you transported them in your car? |
Hi Bart,
I ordered with VDA-laser. This is a father and son company. I have payed 300 € and the quality and service was excellent. Was a long drive to pick up the goods. All the steel (not the laser parts) was transported inside my car in one ride. I removed all the seats except for the drivers seat. The weight was just within the maximum allowed :D. I am still looking for someone with a lathe (draaibank) Where did you order those parts? Nice signs you made on your MM. |
He ,
somebody made it for me at his work . Unfortunately , this year he went on retirement . |
