Welcome Laurent.

I have been looking at your USB controllers for a while and I wonder if you have any recommendations on how to get a good USB connection between a PC and a CNC controller? Is there anything special about the PC, the USB port on the PC, or the cable?

thanks gerald !

yes, a lot of recommendations !
- use USB2.0 certified cable between the PC and the CNC controller, as short as possible, less or equal to 3m.
- use AC filter (schaffner) for the power supply
- if you can, use Switching power supply instead of Transformer
- put the controller in an aluminium (or steel) enclosure

Let me know if you want a sample (CPU4BU) for testing.

PS: thanks to GRAND Pierre

Laurent, some interesting suggestions......

Is a power supply with a toroidal transformer also a problem? I am surprised it should have a filter.

And then I believed that a switch mode supply made much more noise than a good transformer supply?

Thanks for the offer of one for test, but I will be a bad tester. The 2 machines I have built are running full time production by my son and he will not allow me to do any experiments! :) Maybe one day I build machine no.3 for myself. . . . . .

Techlf first Mechmate customer

Hi Gerald,

I have ordered a complete electronic pack to Laurent to run my Mechmate + the spindles (Elte product) + box. Everything is done by Laurent even the wiring network (sorry for the purists !:p).

- 1 cnc 4U
- 4 smd8a
- 4 34h098
- 1 Elte pro spindle

As he proposed me, I will met him in september close to Toulouse to have some quick lessons regarding to the software management (Isa4d) linking to the pro spindle management system.

I will tell you end of september if everything work nice and correctly !!!! Maybe the Mechmate community should find maybe a normalized process to compare products like the gecko or others....like a benchmarking process .

I'm building the Mechmate house at the moment in the garden between two rains, we have a very bad summer in France this year !!.

Bye,

Pierre.

I looked at everything on the site it all looks very nice!

hi gerald,

transformer is a good solution for power supply, but when you use USB, you have some problems when you switch ON/OFF. With switching power supply you have a "soft start".
