Plug Tails (instead of dovetails)
Dovetails more trouble than they're worth?
This isn't a new idea, it's been done before, but not with a CNC router as far as I know. These were cut with a 1/4" straight bit. The "pins" side was cut with the panel held vertically at the end of the table. The biggest challenge is registering zero in precisely the right location. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y58...ails/001-9.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y58...ails/002-4.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y58...ails/003-9.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y58...ails/006-3.jpg |
Jeff the joint looks good. When you have access to the side like your doing the imagination can run wild.

I guess there's nothing new under the sun. The joint above is called a "pin and scallop" or "Knapp" joint.
It was invented by Charles Knapp in 1867. http://www.antiqueweb.com/articles/a..._dovetail.html |
They did some stuff like this over on the Shopbot forum a while back Here
